An English Professor’s life is pretty much falling apart around him. His wife has left him, he has been writing a book for seven years and his editor has shown up and to top it all off he must deal with and help his students with many issues of their own.

Something very positive from 2018 was how many fantastic roles in film we had for women, this list was extremely difficult to put together this year as I certainly had a lot to choose from! That can obviously only be a very good thing in my opinion.
Here are the 25 performances that made it onto my list . . .
Throughout 2018 I managed to catch up with 48 older films and have decided to put together a top 10 list out of those films. You will be probably be quite surprised that some of these films I did not see until recently as some quality films. Always good to set yourself a challenge to catch up. I am happy that I managed to get 48 first time watches of films that does not include new cinema releases. With the films I have chosen for my top 10 list I pretty much was left wondering why I had never seen the film before!

Erica Berry a playwright is content with her life and focusing more on herself after a twenty year marriage. That is all about to change when her daughter is dating Harry Sanborn, when he has a heart attack they connect in a way they didn’t think was possible.

Here is the full list of the Oscar winners for 2018! Not a massive amount of surprises especially on the acting front, but I am so happy with The Shape of Water taking Best Picture!

The top award an actress can hope to win which also means Meryl Streep will somehow be involved! I think this year we have been given five fantastic performances which are all very different and from very different types of films. That certainly shows that this has been a great year for the roles women have been getting, especially considering the very negative time Hollywood has had. This will be a very good celebration for talent and roles.
Let’s have one last look at the actresses who have been nominated for performances in a leading role . . .
Here are the winners of the 33rd Independent Spirit Awards which always take place the night before the Oscars. These are for films with the smaller budgets and Get Out was the big winner!

Again this year nine films have been nominated for the top award of Best Picture, always creating good talking points around film as people can often never understand why some were nominated and then go onto win. I think this year is actually pretty strong and a decent range, but I will get more into each individual film.

Again no shocks or surprises as Frances McDormand takes home the BAFTA for actress in a leading role for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
A pretty impressive speech as she said she doesn’t always conform and rebels but stands with the women dressed in black!
