Happy 3 Year Anniversary!

It has been 3 years now for Let’s Go To The Movies (well slightly over as the first post I made was 9th February 2009) I had no idea that when I started this blog, actually that was the date of my first post! I registered the blog on January 28, 2009. Now this blog is something that I wish I had started years before that date. As I had seen some very random films and I would have loved to have been able to look back and remember what I thought of them at the time. A reason why I keep going with reviews, especially for films I have seen in the cinema to get my thoughts saved as soon as possible. I try to complete cinema reviews as soon as I return home or the next day. I find it gets harder to review a film the longer you leave it. I have enjoyed creating top 10 lists and making general posts on movies or actors.

I go to the cinema at least twice a week most of the time (depending on how many films are released) due to having a Cineworld Unlimited Card so why not try to review everything that I see on the big screen? But some films do slip through the net!

But I have to admit that if you told me I would keep this blog going for 3 years with not many gaps in posts, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. I also find it just brilliant to see that so many fellow bloggers who started in Feb 2009 are still going strong today and posting about 3 years themselves. I still enjoy reading those blogs too!

So we shall now focus on the year ahead and what 2012 has to bring in the year of film!

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 160,000 times in 2011. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 7 days for that many people to see it.

250 Films

Looking back at some of my blog posts I first had the idea of doing a top 25o film list back in 2009, but never actually started with the blog posts. I’ve now decided the format in which it is all going to happen. My top 250 films are going to be more based on the films which I have watched over and over again and have a love for – so that means they might not be the best acting wise or even storyline wise . . . as I am going to go back to some of the films which I used to watch in my childhood. The list might not stay at 250 films, it could end up being longer and having more than that.

I will be doing one film per post, so it’s going to be quite an epic journey. Each post will have a brief plot line about the story, stills from the film, possible video of different scenes and most importantly why I love the film – or what I have always loved about it. If you follow my blog regularly I am sure you will have a pretty good idea which films are going to be in this feature.

I think it is going to be interesting looking back, but these posts aren’t going to end up like a full review of the films – I will keep all of that separate. So be prepared to join Let’s Go To The Movies making a top 250 list of films which I love!

I have noticed a few other film bloggers have done or are doing this type of thing – which has also helped me decided to really go for this now! Wish me luck!

New Header

Something that I have been thinking about doing for a while is making a header containing pictures of some of my favorite films, with my favorite actors and actresses in them. Ranging from classic films to more recent, all of them having something that actually means something to me.

Musical Moments 1 – Let’s Go To The Movies

The first in the Musical Moments feature which I mentioned a little while ago now, that Monday is Musical Moments day! I thought the best way to start this all off ties in very well with the name of this blog. The “Let’s Go To The Movies” scene from Annie. It really is a brilliant scene from the film, which see’s little Annie visit the cinema for the first time and good musical fashion they all make a big song and dance out of it!

So let’s go to the movies . . .

Performed by Aileen Quinn, Ann Reinking, & Albert Finney

New Layout at the Movies!

In what can only be described as a random moment this morning I decided to change the layout of the blog. While I have not by any means completely sorted it all out yet, I am impressed with some of the extra’s I can use with this layout. So onwards and upwards for Let’s Go To The Movies.

What do you think of the new layout?

Total Film: 600 Movie Blogs You Might Have Missed

After reading about the “600 Movie Blogs You Might Have Missed” article on the LAMB and on Branden’s blog Foolish Blatherings.

I decided to have a search and see if Let’s Go To The Movies made it onto the list and we most certainly did on the second page: http://www.totalfilm.com/features/600-movie-blogs-you-might-have-missed/page:2. Thanks Total Film!!!

This actually made me very happy especially seeing my blog next to a lot of the blogs I enjoy to read. Also I see this as a chance to have a scroll through some of the 600 listed to see if I can find more blogs I would like to visit more often.

This has been a nice week really, on that 600 list, hitting 100,000 hits and almost a year old for the blog. Good times!
