Happy New Year! 2023!

Happy New Year to everyone who follows and supports Let’s Go To The Movies. I feel as though in 2022 I lacked a little bit in posts and didn’t get reviews up as quickly as I have done in previous years, I even missed the epic landmark of reaching 2000 film reviews back in August!

Therefore at the end of 2022 I hit 2052 reviews on Let’s Go To The Movies.

Let’s Go To The Movies – 50 Favourite Films!

This is something I have been putting together for quite a long time now and I have held off posting it or even attempting to start the blog post in fear that I have forgotten and somehow missed a favourite film from the list. Barring in mind I got up to 72 films and then had to cut it down to the 50. I would like to make clear these are my favourite films, some might have happened to win Oscars as well and some certainly have not at all. The way I have decided on my favourites is the sheer joy they bring and the number of rewatches I have had over the years. While I have listed 1-50 a lot of them can be shifted around and changed with each other. It is going to highlight my love for musicals and for certain actors and actresses! I doubt it will contain many surprises though!

Happy 40th Birthday Elijah Wood

That’s right Elijah Wood turns 40 years old today! He certainly doesn’t look it considering he hardly looks like he’s aged at all. Frodo Baggins is getting older! Happy Birthday to Elijah Wood!

Lord of the Rings Trilogy – 4K Steelbook

That’s right I managed to get myself the 4K Steelbook limited edition for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This was a little bit of a nightmare when Zavvi put them on sale at midnight of all times so by the time I actually saw the pre-sale email they had sold out. But then over to HMV who still had some available. The release date being Monday 30th November 2020. They arrived (eventually) yesterday after Royal Mail kept teasing me as I originally had an email saying they would be with me on Monday by 3pm!

Anyway they are quite frankly the most beautiful steelbooks or even any DVD/Blu-Ray covers that I have ever seen! You get both the extended editions and theatrical cuts for each film, although the extended editions are still over two discs (only downside). I was lucky enough to see these films at the cinema (twice) in the summer in the 4K and extended on the big screen. Cannot wait to watch them all again and again in 4K format, simply stunning!

Middle Earth 6 Film Collection

mec_lce_glamjpg-e1471955025289-768x472_zpshsv3bfuy

In the past couple of days it has been announced that the biggest ultimate edition of Middle Earth is going to be available. That includes all three Lord of the Rings films and all three of The Hobbit films.

On both Blu Ray and DVD extended and theatrical editions, as well as codes to download the digital versions of all films as well. A truly incredible thing that I would just love, but the price is a bit crazy $799.99! I haven’t currently found anything about the UK release.

Apparently though this is not the ultimate edition Peter Jackson wants us fans to have, he had something else in mind with new footage and special features. Maybe we have to hope that will still happen!

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) Review

The second part of the incredible trilogy picks up with the different characters heading in different directions. We see three different stories unfolding in The Two Towers. This film is a lot darker than Fellowship of the Ring, as Middle Earth heads into a battle at Helms Deep.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy -The Extended Edition [Blu-ray]

Lets face it I have been waiting for it to be announced when the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition was going to be released on Blu-Ray since getting my PS3 to play Blu-Rays on. I did not want to buy the theatrical versions like I did with the DVDs and decided to just wait for the Blu-Ray to come out!

June 27th 2011

That is the date when the Blu-Ray extended edition is to be released and I am definitely going to pre-order this! Over the past few months I had decided not to buy DVDs anymore and even Blu-Rays (until they become cheaper of course). But Lord of the Rings is the reason I love cinema and films so much. I have to own the extended versions on Blu-Ray!

Pre-order now: Amazon – HMV
