Blogathon: My Movie Alphabet

Stumbled across Mettel Ray Movie Blog and spotted a fantastic blogathon and thought I would get involved. Fantastic idea of coming up with your movie alphabet making it consist of moviesdirectorsactors and actresses who’s lives revolve around movies.

The way I decided to approach picking my alphabet was to put down the first 5 movie related things that came to mind for the certain letter! Well most of the time 5 . . . That was actually harder than I thought!

Returning to Middle Earth

With the up and coming release of the first installment of ‘The Hobbit’ next month I am very much looking forward to returning to Middle Earth. The Lord of the Rings trilogy really started my love for films, I have honestly lost count how many times I have seen each film. Especially the extended edition DVDs and now Blu Rays. I watched everything off them as well, the interviews, how they built the set and what went into making the incredible Middle Earth world we see on the screen. I was totally obsessed, I had so many different books, I had all versions of the DVDs and then now the Blu Ray extended editions. I have recently been watching them (again) and I honestly know all of the words for the extended editions I don’t think I would like the normal editions now. I wonder if this is something we will also get with The Hobbit?

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy -The Extended Edition [Blu-ray]

Lets face it I have been waiting for it to be announced when the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition was going to be released on Blu-Ray since getting my PS3 to play Blu-Rays on. I did not want to buy the theatrical versions like I did with the DVDs and decided to just wait for the Blu-Ray to come out!

June 27th 2011

That is the date when the Blu-Ray extended edition is to be released and I am definitely going to pre-order this! Over the past few months I had decided not to buy DVDs anymore and even Blu-Rays (until they become cheaper of course). But Lord of the Rings is the reason I love cinema and films so much. I have to own the extended versions on Blu-Ray!

Legolas to return in The Hobbit?

Reports around the web today are stating that Orlando Bloom is set to return as Legolas the role which really got him noticed in The Hobbit. After the announcement of Cate Blanchett returning as Galadriel yesterday. Three more actors are in talks at reprising roles, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and Andy Serkis as Smeagol/Gollum.

Let’s face it though they have to get the original Lord of the Rings cast members back to reprise their roles it would not be the same if someone else had to take them on. I guess this is another reason why Peter Jackson just had to do The Hobbit too. Surely he would have no problem convincing the actors to come back again.

Filming is still scheduled to start in February 2011. So lets hope the next couple of weeks or even days brings us news of more of the LOTR cast members coming back to make appearances in The Hobbit.

The Hobbit (2012/2013)

The much-anticipated prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been speculated for years now. With it being done after the Lord of the Rings, that follows how I read the books Lord of the Rings first then I read the Hobbit. I actually ended the book The Hobbit more than I did with Lord of the Rings. I found it easier to read and get into, so I am very much looking forward to The Hobbit being filmed and eventually released! I was very happy when it was announced that Peter Jackson was to step back in and sort out the mess which occurred over the film for the past few years. I mean after what he did with Lord of the Rings, no-one else really could have taken on The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman was announced a few months ago now as the man filling Ian Holm’s shoes as Bilbo Baggins. As obviously Holm’s is too old to take on the role of Bilbo in The Hobbit, after all it was his younger years and adventures with Gandalf and slaying a dragon. Looking at the two pictures above, Freeman is a very good choice to play the young Bilbo.

Speculation has also been rife to whether Ian McKellen would return as Gandalf, but surely no-one else can play Gandalf since McKellen was incredible in Lord of the Rings. Other members from the Lord of the Rings cast rumoured to be back are Andy Serkis as Gollum, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Brian Blessed is also rumoured to have a part in the films.

News today has brought us that The Hobbit is going to be in 3D and will be filmed with red epic cameras, 30 hand held cameras. Shot in real 3D none of the post film making 3D stuff that has been so overdone in recent years. I am not really sure how I feel about it being in 3D as I am certainly not a big fan, unless Jackson goes along the Avatar route instead of playing up to the 3D – which I am sure he will.

The film is going to be split into two parts hence the 2012 and 2013 release dates penned at the moment. Filming is due to commence at the start 0f 2011. So lets hope they stop encountering problems, as this film really does seem to have to fight against well everything in the build up to filming! I am sure Peter Jackson and his team will not disappoint, I will have regular updates on the blog as news comes through and filming begins.

Are you looking forward to The Hobbit?

Meme: 10 Movie Facts About Me

Well the newest craze hitting the blogosphere has been 10 movie facts about me a meme. Andy from Fandango Groovers so kindly tagged me to post 10 movie facts. Love it! This will all be off the top of my head, so I have no idea which direction it will head in (if any). Big shout out to who originally started this post, we really are feeling the love in the movie blogging world over the past few weeks and I think it really is just brilliant.

1. I am a total geek when it comes to going to the cinema, as I keep the tickets from every film I go to see. This helps when myself and friends argue about the last film we saw in a certain screen (from 1-11 in our local cinema).

2. The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Aladdin which would have made me 4 or 5 (depending on UK release date) and I am pretty sure I went to see it twice.

3. I can remember a hell of a lot of film quotes and find myself telling them to people in certain situations, often to help them feel better.

4. I have hundreds and hundreds of DVDs. Some of which have been watched lots and lots of times (Lord of the Rings, Julia Roberts films . . . ) and some have been watched once (Hope Springs is one I can think of off the top of my head) and about 25 have never been watched and on my must watch list.

5. I am extremely pleased that I suddenly decided to start this blog one day as it has allowed me to meet a lot of interesting people through there blogs, getting involved in blogging events and encouraging me to really think about some films whilst writing reviews and even paying closer attention when watching them. To say the least it has become somewhat a hobby.

6. Every now and then I have an actor of the moment which causes me to dive into their past work, often buying more DVDs. Over the years this has happened with Richard Gere, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and most recently Daniel Craig (thank you Casino Royale !!!).

7. My feel good, never fails to put a smile on my face movie is “The Sound of Music” possibly my most watched film EVER. As I grew up watching it and still love it to this day. I always thought Julie Andrews was the most perfect speaking woman.

8. I have a Cineworld cinema pass which I think is the best 13.50 a month to come out of my bank account! Unlimited cinema for that much a month really is something else. I do my best to go twice a week maybe more if loads of different films are out.

9. As I have probably mentioned before I never read a review before I see the film. The furthest I will go when reading a paper with a review in is looking to see how many stars they gave the review – as this doesn’t often make it very obvious how the film goes. But after I have seen a film and wrote my review, I will then read what other people thought of the film.

10. My friends and family often ask me if I have seen certain films and what I thought of them. It’s not very often I actually tell people a film is bad unless I wanted to turn it off or leave the cinema. I don’t often do that because I find that everyone has different opinions so something I hate they may love and vice versa.

Well there we go 10 random movie facts about me!!!

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Review

Pretty Boy Actors: A Curse?

Being an actor and being attractive at the same time and in some cases being labelled a “pretty boy” can place a lot of extra pressure on the actor. After so long if they are not already showing brilliant acting roles they hit a point when their good looks no longer cut it in the world of film. This could be related to that if they are a young actor their “fan girls” grow up and they are still trying to do the same type of roles, this loses some of their fan base and its either show you can act or the work will dry up and you will slowly be forgotten about. But if they can act and show they can act what a career they will have!
