Christmas 2011 at the Movies

It’s that time of year again . . . time to watch all of those Christmas films! I thought a small recap of the films I have already reviewed on my blog and the Top 10 Christmas films list I completed last year would be a good way to start and then films which have not been reviewed yet will be added onto the blog! Possibly with more Top 10 lists if I can think of some to do!

Hollywood Walk of Fame – Colin Firth

Ahead of this Sunday’s Golden Globes and the up and coming Oscars, Colin Firth has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is tipped to be nominated and win the best actor Oscar at this years awards.

Firth has come along way since being Mr Darcy in the TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Over the years he has taken on some very different roles. The last couple of years the roles he has taken on have really helped to show what a fantastic actor he is. When it comes to the romantic comedy films such as Bridget Jones Diary and Love Actually he is always the nice guy. In real life he seems to be just as nice as he is in those roles.

It really is fantastic seeing a British actor going so far in Hollywood and getting a star on the Walk of Fame. The question now is will the Oscar be following for Mr Firth? Let’s hope so, he really does put in a brilliant performance in The King’s Speech. We don’t have much longer to wait, to see how many more awards Colin is going to pick up over awards season.

Top 10 – Christmas Movies

As it is Christmas Eve today, I thought the best way to celebrate Christmas on the blog would be to do my top 10 Christmas Movies. The one’s I have grew up watching (and loving) and even more recent films will appear too. As over the past few years some very good Christmas films have been released. The best thing about Christmas films is that you are really restricted to watching them in Decemeber. I mean if you really want to you could watch them in July . . . but that’s just not the same at all! So quite a few films in my collection are only watched at this time of year.

What makes a good Christmas movie then? Well I would say it has to be a very Christmasy message usually involving or revolving around family. Most of the better ones also have the Santa factor too!

Movie Quote of the Day 86

Today’s quote is yet another from Love Actually . . .

I’ll just be hanging around the mistletoe, hoping to be kissed.”

Movie Quote of the Day 85

Today’s quote is another from Love Actually and does sum up what Christmas is all about!

I realized that Christmas is… is the time to be with the people you love.”

Movie Quote of the Day 83

Today’s quote comes from Love Actually and it really is just true Christmas shopping is the worst!

Christmas shopping, never an easy or a pleasant task.”

Christmas 2010 at the Movies

1st December which means we are now officially allowed to watch Christmas movies again (and attempt to get in the Christmas spirit). I reviewed quite a few Christmas films last year, and will probably watch most of them again this year/ After all some of them are my favorite Christmas films. Missed loads though, so be ready for more Christmas reviews if I manage to catch the films of course.

Love Actually I also started doing blogs on the love shared between characters, Billy Mack and Joe. Harry, Karen & Mia.

Home Alone

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Fred Claus

Elf

A Christmas Carol 3D

Hopefully I will have some seasonal top 10 lists as well!

Which Christmas films will you be watching first this holiday season?

Valentine’s Day (2010) Review

Intertwining couples and singles in Los Angeles break-up and make-up based on the pressures and expectations of Valentine’s Day. Kinda like Love Actually but instead of Christmas and London . . . Valentine’s Day and LA.

Love Actually (2003) – Harry, Karen and Mia

Karen and Harry – – – Harry and Mia

This story or more triangle has to contain the most heartbreaking scene of the movie. Harry (Alan Rickman) is married to Karen (Emma Thompson) and they have two children. Mia (Heike Makatsch) is Harry’s new secretary and makes no attempt to hide the fact that she fancies him.
