Men (2022) Review

A young woman named Harper heads off on a holiday into the English countryside following a traumatic experience with her husband. Haunted by the memories and carrying a lot of guilt, the strange men in the village all seem to look similar to Geoffrey the landlord who greeted her.

7 Older Men I’ve Had An Obsession With!

Feel free to judge me but I don’t really care! I certainly have some strange obsessions and fangirl moments over older men. I am hoping that with this post people will either agree, understand where I am coming from or just respect my total honesty in admitting my random obsessions. This has often resulted into buying a lot of older films and rushing out to see the latest release from that actor and generally just well loving them!

Top 10 – Worst Films of 2014

Putting together a list of worst films of a year is often the easiest and most fun to do. I am not even going to lie, it is the easiest list to sort out. The really bad films still leave a bad taste in your mouth months later just seeing the title. I actually managed to avoid a lot of films I have seen on other people’s lists those being Sex Tape and Tammy, I honestly just thought they looked tragic and managed to avoid them. Unfortunately I still managed to catch plenty of films worthy of this list, I wouldn’t really say 2014 was a fantastic year for film overall.

Not only have I caught films this year at the cinema towards the end of the year I managed to catch ones I had missed either on one of my many flights for work in Africa this year and also on Sky Movies and Netflix as they became available. So this gives quite a lot of films for consideration. – Look here for 2014 tagged posts and here for films I watched at the cinema in 2014.

Top 10 – Movie Quotes I’d love a man to say to me!

Ok so I have slightly caved and decided to admit for at least this blog post that I am a romantic at heart . . . by making a list of love movie quotes that I would love a man to say to me! But I had decided not to place them in a 1-10 order, as they are all in the list for the same reason of thinking that it would be just lovely for a man to say them to me. Yes some are very cheesy! But I guess I do have to conform at some point for some Valentine’s Day slushiness!!!

“You complete me” (Jerry Maguire, 1996)

Who wouldn’t want a man to inform them that you complete them . . . not something that they are going to tell you ever day. As corny as this is, I still love it!

Top 10 – Anti-Valentine’s Day Films

Well let’s just say that I pretty much hate Valentine’s Day! So decided to do an anti-Valentine’s day list of films, because lets face it real life isn’t all flowers and chocolates! People get hurt and hearts are broken, so I don’t understand why we should have one day that is supposed to be when we declare our love for someone?!?! If we truly loved them wouldn’t we just randomly buy them gifts and tell them of our love whenever we felt like it?

Anyway check out the following 10 films which have made my list . . . not for the people wanting to see love in a nice way with the happily ever after ending!!!

What are your favorites?

Mae West: Before Her Time?

Mae West has often been described as one of the more controversial movie stars of her day, West encountered many problems including censorship. This brings me to the main point in this blog post about an incredible actress and performer who was so obviously well before her time, in terms of the roles she was playing. Her characters did not play second best to men, and some of the lines she was given are still fantastic quotes to this day. She really was just incredible. When you put everything into context based on the way life was back in the day when West was delivering these controversial lines it really must have been quite shocking at the time! A lot of these lines would still be brilliant if thought up today.

Can a woman be more successful than her husband/partner in Hollywood?

After the recent allegations that the most recent best actress Oscar winner Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James cheated on her. It got me thinking about the previous best actress winners and there relationships especially after Kate Winslet announcing her spilt from husband Sam Mendes earlier this week. Hilary Swank  split from Chad Lowe not too long after she picked up her second best actress statue. So can men really not handle it if there wife is more successful than them or is it all just a coincidence?

The old-fashioned values and usual relationship rules are that the man is classed as the main earner and “looks” after his wife and children. But in Hollywood that is not often the case when a woman can easily be more successful than her husband. So lets venture down the road of successful actresses and have a comparison with relationships she has had, especially before and even after winning the highest accolade of an Oscar.

Movie Quote of the Day 70

Today’s quote is just totally true . . . and comes from musical “Mary Poppins” sorry to all the men out there haha.

Though we adore men individually, we agree that as a group they are rather stupid.”

My Best Friends Wedding (1997) Vs Made of Honor (2008)

I love “My Best Friends Wedding” as you may already know I am a massive fan of Julia Roberts aka Jules in my world. Yet it is quite a strange film in terms of the ending really isnt what you would expect from Hollywood but is it more realistic? In my world yes it is. Its heartbreaking at times but thats life isn’t it. I have probably watched this film more times that people can actually imagine. Quite a few months ago I eventually got round to see “Made of Honor” which I had heard was like MBFW but the other way round. I however have to totally disagree with that and this post will end up in a rant that men always win no matter what the situation is.

Made and released more than 10 years apart really shows the direction in which romantic comedies aka rom-coms have come over the years. That direction is down. Don’t get me wrong some have been quite good like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “(500) Days of Summer”. But way exactly have I enjoyed these? They have more realistic moments in them and manage to connect to the audience in different ways. Especially (500) Days of Summer it is so realistic and good how throughout the film it reminds us it is not a love story it is a story about love, and showing how different your expectations are in comparison to what reality is.

Movies Men Cry to . . . by MSN

On my homepage for MSN when coming on line, I noticed that one of the sections was on “Movies Men Cry to”. So decided to not only read it but blog about it and see whether I can actually imagine any of my male friends crying to these movies.

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial is the first up in the list, I can imagine possibly a boy crying if they relate to Elliott and would had to say goodbye to there best alien friend.

The Shawshank Redemption – I have to admit that I did not cry at this one, but have seen it in a few lists of movies that make men cry.  Maybe its the male bonding factor?

American History X – I have yet to see this movie.

The Champ – I have seen this and cried, can understand more why men would cry as well.

Dead Poets Society – Carpe Diem . . . I think anyone of either sex who does not shed a tear or at least fill up at this movie is made of stone or something.

Field Of Dreams – a story about a son’s search for his father “build it and he will come . . . can understand with the father/son relationship being the main topic how it could effect men of all ages.

Forrest Gump – Everyone must shed a few tears at different parts of this film, as Forrest is just not smart enough at times to realise what is going on around him.

Gladiator – I guess this one is because of his love for his family.

Glory – Another which I have not seen.

The Green Mile – This one actually broke my heart, and has to be another of the if you did not shed a tear or fill up you are made of stone movies.

Kramer vs Kramer – The breakfast scene at the end is so sad, can understand the father/son relationship again.

My Life – This is really is heartbreaking, a man making videos for his child to watch so he knows him.

Hotel Rwanda – Have yet to see this movie.

Saving Private Ryan – I found this really hard to watch, mainly for the reason that its so heartbreaking with how real it all looks and seems.

Schindler’s List – This is on my Sky+ to watch

Seabiscuit – Yet to see this movie

Stand By Me – Yet to see this movie

United 93 – I found this really awful to watch, and I am sure everyone else who has seen it has as well.

Watership Down – I cried my eyes out when watching this as a child, although cannot remember much of it now.

It’s A Wonderful Life – It must be quite impossible not to cry to this, what would happen if you were never born.

So my question is to the male population out there, which movies make you cry?

Do they feature in this list?
