Blogathon: My Movie Alphabet

Stumbled across Mettel Ray Movie Blog and spotted a fantastic blogathon and thought I would get involved. Fantastic idea of coming up with your movie alphabet making it consist of moviesdirectorsactors and actresses who’s lives revolve around movies.

The way I decided to approach picking my alphabet was to put down the first 5 movie related things that came to mind for the certain letter! Well most of the time 5 . . . That was actually harder than I thought!

7 Reasons You Should Have a Cineworld Unlimited Card

Cineworld’s Unlimited Card means you can go to the cinema as many times as you want for the very low-cost of 14.99 per month. See every film, see a film ten times or a few times a week. It’s up to you!

  1. You can see as many films as you want – no limit you could go see a couple of films everyday if you really wanted to! You will also end up seeing films you probably wouldn’t have picked out if you had to pay each time, therefore seeing some hidden gems!
  2. You don’t have to worry about money – it’s already paid for each money so you don’t have to be concerned about not having enough cash to see the latest releases
  3. Exclusive offers – until last weekend my local cinema had an offer on which allowed Unlimited card holders to get 30% off all food/drink/sweets.
  4. Exclusive Screenings – every now and then you get an email through telling you about a card holder only special preview of a film, before its general release.
  5. Social – If your like myself your friends all have a card too, therefore you can go in a big group or with a close friend. Plus you will end up talking to the staff because they recognize you when you attend the cinema all the time.
  6. Quick Service – When purchasing your ticket all you have to do is swipe the card, so much quicker than paying with cash!
  7. Local Unlimited Offers – Cineworld has teamed up with all different restaurants in different areas so you can get discount off your meal. Places include Frankie & Benny’s, Nando’s, Handmade Burger Co and Pizza Hut. You will often find that this is a place close to the cinema, so why not combine the two for a night?

If you like going to the cinema and watching the latest releases you really should check how close Cineworld is to you as this Card really is the way forward when it comes to cinema viewing.

Happy 3 Year Anniversary!

It has been 3 years now for Let’s Go To The Movies (well slightly over as the first post I made was 9th February 2009) I had no idea that when I started this blog, actually that was the date of my first post! I registered the blog on January 28, 2009. Now this blog is something that I wish I had started years before that date. As I had seen some very random films and I would have loved to have been able to look back and remember what I thought of them at the time. A reason why I keep going with reviews, especially for films I have seen in the cinema to get my thoughts saved as soon as possible. I try to complete cinema reviews as soon as I return home or the next day. I find it gets harder to review a film the longer you leave it. I have enjoyed creating top 10 lists and making general posts on movies or actors.

I go to the cinema at least twice a week most of the time (depending on how many films are released) due to having a Cineworld Unlimited Card so why not try to review everything that I see on the big screen? But some films do slip through the net!

But I have to admit that if you told me I would keep this blog going for 3 years with not many gaps in posts, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. I also find it just brilliant to see that so many fellow bloggers who started in Feb 2009 are still going strong today and posting about 3 years themselves. I still enjoy reading those blogs too!

So we shall now focus on the year ahead and what 2012 has to bring in the year of film!

The R-Rated Lunch Box

I tried to pick all different types of R-Rated films subject wise to keep my list interesting.

Cinema Tickets

Having attended the cinema hundreds and hundreds of times over the years, I have a rather strange thing of keeping all of the cinema tickets from the different screenings. Which my friends still laugh at – yet appreciate if we ever argue about which screen we saw a certain film in the past. Yes that probably does sound very sad but it’s just one of our cinema things that we seem to do.

Singing in the Car Movie Scenes

One of my favorite things about driving a lot and being alone in the car is singing along to the songs on the radio (or CD). So when I see a character in a film doing exactly that I really do just love it. Mainly because I can relate to it so much! I have spent quite a lot of time on YouTube trying to find clips, which has proven to be quite difficult! Let’s admit it, gone are the days of singing in the shower . . . it’s all about letting go and singing your heart out in the car. I love seeing other drivers do it as well, especially if you realise you both have the same radio station on. Just brilliant! But don’t forget that singing along in a car can be done as duet or you can get a group singing going along! Funny moments can also happen when just one person decides to go for it and sing!

Although a great one and possibly one of the best to start off with. Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire . . . now if you don’t act like this when a song you love comes on the radio, don’t forget the changing radio station to find a good song, then you must be boring whilst driving! Over to Tom . . .

250 Films

Looking back at some of my blog posts I first had the idea of doing a top 25o film list back in 2009, but never actually started with the blog posts. I’ve now decided the format in which it is all going to happen. My top 250 films are going to be more based on the films which I have watched over and over again and have a love for – so that means they might not be the best acting wise or even storyline wise . . . as I am going to go back to some of the films which I used to watch in my childhood. The list might not stay at 250 films, it could end up being longer and having more than that.

I will be doing one film per post, so it’s going to be quite an epic journey. Each post will have a brief plot line about the story, stills from the film, possible video of different scenes and most importantly why I love the film – or what I have always loved about it. If you follow my blog regularly I am sure you will have a pretty good idea which films are going to be in this feature.

I think it is going to be interesting looking back, but these posts aren’t going to end up like a full review of the films – I will keep all of that separate. So be prepared to join Let’s Go To The Movies making a top 250 list of films which I love!

I have noticed a few other film bloggers have done or are doing this type of thing – which has also helped me decided to really go for this now! Wish me luck!

September 2011 @ the Movies

As it coming up to September I thought that a new monthly feature on my blog is going to contain the up and coming releases for the UK in that month. This would therefore be the films that I would also hope to have the chance of seeing at my local Cineworld cinema . . . obviously if a limited release happens, then I struggle to see the smaller films. I think we should now start to see some better films coming out after the so called summer blockbuster season is now over as we enter September.

We see a wide range of genre’s opening in the month of September, so you really do have quite a broad choice of films to choose every week. This is something that has to be better than the summer which seemed to be just comic book film after comic book film . . . which I do love but it’s nice to have some different types of films out for a bit more variety!

Fright Night

Vampire films are still classed as being very in at the moment, although I wouldn’t complain with Colin Farrell being a vampire! But this one is going for the mix between comedy and horror, which we don’t really see very often. But not long to wait to find out how this film is!
