Considering I spend quite a lot of time at the Theatre (although not as much as I would like) I thought I would do a post each month highlighting the shows you can catch in the North East of England. I haven’t come across many blogs which feature shows in the North East and reviews of shows at either the Sunderland Empire or Theatre Royal in Newcastle come from the local papers/press.
Here is what you can catch around the North East in April!
Tues 5th-Sat 9th – Oliver! (Amateur Production, Tyne Theatre and Opera House)

Sat 9th –Patricia Routledge In Conversation With Edward Seckerson (Customs House/South Shields)
This is something I am looking to get a ticket for as I think it will be really interesting to see the legend that is Mrs Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances talking about her career etc!

Awards season goes on this time in the Theatre world with the nominees being announced for the Olivier Awards which celebrate the West End (similar to the Tony Awards for Broadway). Obviously having managed to get down to London twice to see Gypsy I will certainly be rooting for that to win all the awards it has been nominated for!
Best New Musical
Bend It Like Beckham
In the Heights
Mrs Henderson Presents
Kinky Boots
Best Musical Revival
Gypsy
Bugsy Malone
Guys and Dolls
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Tonight I am heading to see the Rocky Horror at the Theatre (yes really again) it’s the first UK tour since 2013 although it doesn’t really feel that long ago. So I thought what better musical moment to have today than an absolute classic scene from the film version . . .

A writer named Christian ends up in a crazy world when he travels to Paris and ends up working in the Moulin Rouge where he falls in love with Satine a courtesan, only problem is she must seduce the Duke in order for him to invest.
A brand new top 10 for 2015!

I thought considering how many shows I manage to see at the Theatre it would be a perfect idea to pick a top 10 from everything I have seen. This includes shows I went to see on my many trips to London as well as the touring shows we get in the North East, mainly at the Sunderland Empire and Theatre Royal in Newcastle. It really is fantastic the shows we get now direct from West End runs, I am looking forward to what the future will bring with these tours.
You can check which shows I went to see in 2015 here as well as reading my review of the whole year!
Quite possibly one of my favourite endings to a musical, Mr Banks eventually sees the error of his ways and fixes that kite . . . Honestly this gets better with each viewing!
