Top 10 – Best Films of 2017

I think 2017 has been a pretty impressive and good year for film, that meant that picking a top 10 was extremely hard and I have had to think a lot about what was going to make my final list. Originally I had 21 films to get down to 10 which was very tricky. I have therefore had to really think about which films I enjoyed the most this year, which made me feel good and that I would love to watch again and again.

Just missing out on the final list were the following films Colossal, Baby Driver, Dunkirk , Thor: Ragnarok, Breathe, Wonder and Get Out.

Check out the films I watched at the cinema during 2017 here.

The Big Short takes a look back at the housing bubble collapse which happened in 2008, the thing is though some very unexpected people actually predicted it happening a couple of years before it all eventually imploded.

Oscars 2015 – Best Actor

Now for Best Actor in a Leading Role, once again I have managed to see all of these films and this category certainly does have some very strong performances. Apart from Cooper they are all first time Oscar nominees, which I think is a pretty nice thing really. Showing that new and old talent is being rewarded, two Brits in this category as well which lets face it has been mentioned absolutely loads on UK TV over the past few weeks. I am certainly hoping for an upset in this one in all honesty, I just hope it’s not so nailed on and straight forward.

BAFTA 2015 – Nominations

The nominations for the 2015 BAFTA awards have been announced this morning and i have to say I am pretty impressed with the choices. Some are probably a little bit of a shock but we must remember that a slight bias towards British actors and actresses is often shown with the BAFTAs not a bad thing in my opinion. Just showing that they appreciate our own talent. So far I have seen nearly all of the films, just a couple to catch up with. They come out over the next couple of weeks as well!

Golden Globe Nominations 2015

It’s getting to that time of year when all the more serious films come out ready for awards season, well the Golden Globe nominations for 2015 are out. Having a look at the lists only about half of the films have hit the cinema in the UK so far. But I have seen quite a few of the trailers for the other films as well. So at least it gives an idea of which ones to look out for and head to see. Usually these are pretty good predictors for who will be nominated at the Oscars as well.

The Golden Globes are usually good to watch and more relaxed than the Academy Awards. Probably a few surprises in these nominations and some quite big films missing out!

I have decided to put a * next to the films I have already seen!

Best Motion Picture – Drama
Boyhood*
Foxcatcher
The Imitation Game*
Selma
The Theory of Everything
