Fast & Furious Wins U.K. Box Office Race

If I was in the UK, I would probably of went to see “Fast & Furious” on friday.

Vin Diesel‘s high-speed action film Fast & Furious has raced to the top of the U.K. box office chart in its opening weekend (11-12Apr09), with takings of $7.2 million (£4.9 million).

The movie – the fourth in the popular franchise – revved ahead of last week’s number one, animated movie Monsters vs Aliens, which pulled in around $4.1 million (£2.8 million).

High School Musical heart-throb Zac Efron‘s comedy 17 Again debuted at number three, making $3.7 million (£2.5 million), while Richard CurtisThe Boat That Rocked dropped to number four, taking $1.4 million (£965,000).

Nicolas Cage‘s thriller Knowing rounded out the top five most popular films in British cinemas, garnering $920,000 (£620,000).
