7 Films Based on Books – #WorldBookDay

Today is World Book Day and what better way to celebrate on a film blog than putting together a list of 7 films that are based on books? I thought it was a great idea too, the thing with the list though is that I have to have read the book and seen the film for it to make the list.

Here are my choices . . .

A look back at 2009 in film!

Having already mentioned what a huge year 2009 is for Let’s Go To The Movies, formed in the February to be exact. That was therefore a massive year in terms of reviews for 2009 films, catching as many as I possibly could at the cinema and then reviewing them. Something I have grown to love over the past decade!

I don’t feel as though this was really an outstanding decade in terms of films and/or performances but we certainly were given plenty of entertainment. The 3D film was pushed a lot and in a few different ways which is something that Avatar really was groundbreaking with, however after ten years maybe that film was more of a gimmick than actually an amazing film? I certainly think so.

The Ultimate Sports Film

As you will always already know if you follow my blog I absolutely love Sport in Film. I work in sport and find the film appreciation of that to be something special at times.

I have therefore decided to try and come up with reasons that make a great sports film and then come up with the ultimate film that well pretty much has it all. Which might be easier said than done considering the high calibre of films available.

Football in Film

I was sent a link to this timeline and thought it was well worth posting. Considering I work full time in football and being a fan and player as well it was appropriate to include it!

Top 10 – Best Films of 2009

The 10 films I found the best from the year 2009. Yes you may think its now April, but I was trying to keep it to films from 2009 based on the year they were made rather than UK release date as that is often different to the US release date. Anyway I didn’t want to end up with a confusing list not containing some of the best of 2009 because I saw them at the beginning of 2010.

Check it out see if you agree with many of the films! As I am sure some of the films included would not have been expected.

BAFTA 2010 – Nominations

The nominations were released this morning for the 2010 BAFTA’s and don’t really seem to have many suprises. I was really hoping that The Damned United would recieve some nominations but that did not happen.

I am very happy to see Alec Baldwin nominated for”It’s Complicated” which he was just fantastic in, lets hope he turns up at the awards.

BAFTA Awards 2010 – Long List

The long list of possible nominee’s for this year’s BAFTA awards has been released today. I was not going to blog about this, but as I got further down the long list and to the actor in a leading and supporting role, I was extremely happy to see both Michael Sheen and Timonthy Spall’s names down for their work in “The Damned United” which is a film I enjoyed a lot. So now we just have to hope that they both get into the last 5, who will then be up for the award. It is best of British so *fingers crossed*. Also the best adapted screenplay possibility for it too. 🙂

I am also pleased to see Gran Torino on the list too, as it missed the cut off point for last year, if I remember rightly someone didn’t send a copy of the film in time for it to be viewed? Clint Eastwood could indeed be up against himself as Invictus is in the best picture and director list. Interesting . . . I suppose it is rather silly talking about that now.

Have to wait until 21st January to find out the actual nominations.

Michael Sheen – Underrated Actor?

Michael Sheen appeared on the Graham Norton show a week or so ago now. I must first say that I love Graham Norton and have been a fan of his for such a long time now, he asks questions that other talk show hosts could not get away with and getting them to do random things. Any way Michael Sheen was a guest and even done an impression of graham. They talked about his recent appearance in New Moon as Aro and the impact that this could have on his career, this lead me to think about Michael Sheen . . .

The Damned United (2009) Review

Brian Clough was one of the best English managers on record, the best manager England never had. This film is based on a book which tracked his turbulent 44 days when he was Leeds United manager after joining from bitter rivals Derby County.
