Film and Theatre Lover!

The first pictures have been released for ‘The Hobbit’ and Martin Freeman in full Bilbo costume! So annoying that we still have a year and a half to wait to see the first film part of ‘The Hobbit’. They are currently filming in New Zealand.

As we have known since it was all confirmed properly that Peter Jackson was heading back to middle earth to eventually get ‘The Hobbit’ onto the big screen, we have known that the book will be put into two films. These two films now have names!
The first is, ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘ which will be released December 14th 2012.
The second installement is ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again‘ and will be released Decemeber 13th 2013.
I think it’s very nice to see that they are following similar release dates which ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series had. The anticipation is really starting to build for these films and we still have more than a year and a half left to wait. But one thing is for sure we know that they will not disappoint at all!

Reports around the web today are stating that Orlando Bloom is set to return as Legolas the role which really got him noticed in The Hobbit. After the announcement of Cate Blanchett returning as Galadriel yesterday. Three more actors are in talks at reprising roles, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and Andy Serkis as Smeagol/Gollum.
Let’s face it though they have to get the original Lord of the Rings cast members back to reprise their roles it would not be the same if someone else had to take them on. I guess this is another reason why Peter Jackson just had to do The Hobbit too. Surely he would have no problem convincing the actors to come back again.
Filming is still scheduled to start in February 2011. So lets hope the next couple of weeks or even days brings us news of more of the LOTR cast members coming back to make appearances in The Hobbit.
The much-anticipated prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been speculated for years now. With it being done after the Lord of the Rings, that follows how I read the books Lord of the Rings first then I read the Hobbit. I actually ended the book The Hobbit more than I did with Lord of the Rings. I found it easier to read and get into, so I am very much looking forward to The Hobbit being filmed and eventually released! I was very happy when it was announced that Peter Jackson was to step back in and sort out the mess which occurred over the film for the past few years. I mean after what he did with Lord of the Rings, no-one else really could have taken on The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman was announced a few months ago now as the man filling Ian Holm’s shoes as Bilbo Baggins. As obviously Holm’s is too old to take on the role of Bilbo in The Hobbit, after all it was his younger years and adventures with Gandalf and slaying a dragon. Looking at the two pictures above, Freeman is a very good choice to play the young Bilbo.
Speculation has also been rife to whether Ian McKellen would return as Gandalf, but surely no-one else can play Gandalf since McKellen was incredible in Lord of the Rings. Other members from the Lord of the Rings cast rumoured to be back are Andy Serkis as Gollum, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Brian Blessed is also rumoured to have a part in the films.
News today has brought us that The Hobbit is going to be in 3D and will be filmed with red epic cameras, 30 hand held cameras. Shot in real 3D none of the post film making 3D stuff that has been so overdone in recent years. I am not really sure how I feel about it being in 3D as I am certainly not a big fan, unless Jackson goes along the Avatar route instead of playing up to the 3D – which I am sure he will.
The film is going to be split into two parts hence the 2012 and 2013 release dates penned at the moment. Filming is due to commence at the start 0f 2011. So lets hope they stop encountering problems, as this film really does seem to have to fight against well everything in the build up to filming! I am sure Peter Jackson and his team will not disappoint, I will have regular updates on the blog as news comes through and filming begins.
Are you looking forward to The Hobbit?
I just realised the other day that I have neglected how big an impact Lord of the Rings had on developing my love of movies, in this blog. It was “Fellowship of the Ring” which really started off not only my Lord of the Rings obsession but my movie obsession as well. Especially when I got the extended edition of the DVD and watched it hundreds of times over and over again. I watched all of the behind the scene features too, and even watched the movie with cast commentary on a few occasions. It also introduced me to Orlando Bloom, yes who I still found very attractive after I realised he did not have blond hair and pointy ears haha.
All of the behind the scene features for “Two Towers” and “Return of the King” have all been watched a lot and it really developed my love for movies and how much time and effort was placed into the elaborate making of these movies. It also made me want to visit New Zealand, it encouraged me to read the books and to take a big interest in “Middle Earth”, I had so many other books explaining the movie and the books. I also feel in love with Aragorn in both the movie and the books.
I still think to this day that if I had not become really obsessed with LOTR I would not be a massive movie fan, it really opened me up to how fantastic movies are and it really was just a fantasy series which you can totally get lost in. I really enjoyed how the movie encouraged me to read the books. I finished Return of the King before it came out in the cinema therefore some parts in the movie disappointed me a tiny little bit.
From then on, I also took an interest in reading books that I had seen the movie too, then trying to read books before the movie was released. Which either way is good with me, you can still love a book more than the movie even if you read it after you have seen the movie as they often take slightly different takes on the story.
I also took a massive interest in all of the actors in LOTR and get excited when I see them in something to this day, I even went back and watched some of there older stuff. So it really broadened my knowledge of the movies. I went and read “The Hobbit” as well and really cannot wait for the movie to be made, but I am a little sad that Peter Jackson is not making it. He done such an incredible job with LOTR and he would have with the Hobbit as well.
I hope that the trilogy is something that people will keep watching and enjoying a lot over the years and just love as much as I did on first viewings and still do to this day. I really should get round to writing reviews for all 3 movies. I just wish that I had this blog at the time when I really started to watch more and more movies.
So thank you to Lord of the Rings for making me the film fantatic that I am too this day.
Its about time that this got confirmed, it would not have worked doing “The Hobbit” with different actors as Gandalf, Lord Elrond and Gollum !!!
Here’s one to file under, “Well, duh! But also good”. Guillermo del Toro told Radio 5, as picked up by The One Ring.net, that Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving would be appearing in The Hobbit. It won’t come as any great surprise to, well, anyone, but it is welcome news that those members of the Lord of the Rings cast who also appear in The Hobbit will be playing the roles they originated in Del Toro’s sort-of prequel to Jackson’s trilogy. We’re due a Bilbo casting announcement any day now, but we hope that this tidbit of almost-news will keep you going until then.
