16 Years of Let’s Go To The Movies!

That’s right today marks the anniversary of Let’s Go To The Movies or blogaversary as it would have once been known. On the 9th February 2009 I made my first post and let’s face it I probably didn’t think that 16 years later I would still be reviewing the films that I have watched at the cinema, now on streaming and catching up with classics of years gone by. But somehow Let’s Go To The Movies is still going and in the past few months I hit that incredible 2 million views and eventually managed to purchase the .com domain I had been after for a long time.

Thank you once again to everyone for the incredible support, as it stands I have 2289 film reviews on Let’s Go To The Movies. Plenty more to come!

Happy 88th Birthday Julie Andrews!

That’s right the legend that is Dame Julie Andrews turns 88 years old today! Happy Birthday to one of my favourites actresses.

Let’s Go To The Movies – 50 Favourite Films!

This is something I have been putting together for quite a long time now and I have held off posting it or even attempting to start the blog post in fear that I have forgotten and somehow missed a favourite film from the list. Barring in mind I got up to 72 films and then had to cut it down to the 50. I would like to make clear these are my favourite films, some might have happened to win Oscars as well and some certainly have not at all. The way I have decided on my favourites is the sheer joy they bring and the number of rewatches I have had over the years. While I have listed 1-50 a lot of them can be shifted around and changed with each other. It is going to highlight my love for musicals and for certain actors and actresses! I doubt it will contain many surprises though!

RIP Christopher Plummer

Sad news breaking today that Christopher Plummer has past away at the age of 91 years old, peacefully with his wife by his side. The oldest actor to win an Oscar, may Captain Von Trapp forever rest in peace.

Cinema First – The 450 Films For UK Cinemas!

Today Cinema First released a list of films that can be used at cinemas when they reopen in July. With Cineworld being the first to announce a date for England on 10th July they will then need films to show. The list has a very wide variety of genres as well as from all decades. I personally hope to see a lot of older films on the big screen for the first time, I don’t want recent ones given a release! Let’s appreciate some amazing films on the big screen for what could well be the very first time (Yes Casablanca and Some Like It Hot I am talking about you, not forgetting my all time favourite When Harry Met Sally!)

Musical Moments – The Sound of Music

Last Monday evening I had a truly fantastic experience of seeing one of my all time favourite films on the big screen at the cinema for the very first time. I have easily seen this film over 100 times and I still cried and felt emotional seeing it on the big screen. The picture quality was truly outstanding and I really hope that more old films are screened at the cinema. Thanks Cineworld!

So this Monday I am sharing a couple of songs from the film, because they are just fantastic! I actually find it odd when people say they have never seen The Sound of Music.

Look at the way the nuns move around!

The Sound of Football Coming Home!

Tonight The Sound of Music is back on at the cinema and I will be heading along to see it! Over the weekend I made this video as I couldn’t help but get involved in all of these It’s Coming Home videos, this popped in my head and I just had to make it!

England reaching the semi final of a World Cup, the last time that happened I was two turning three! Back in 1990!
