After seeing In the Heights film for the second time at the cinema yesterday I felt this was the perfect time to have In the Heights as a musical moment. I have picked the performance from the original Broadway cast at the Tony Awards in 2008 in which it went on to win the Best New Musical Tony Award (and I was at these awards!)
RIP Ann Reinking
Broadway legend Ann Reinking has sadly passed away at the age of 71. She was part of the original Chicago broadway cast and over the years spent a lot of time working on the show, which I must add is my all time favourite.
Rest in peace to a true musical theatre legend who you might know from films All That Jazz (1979) and Annie (1982). Especially considering this blog is named Let’s Go To The Movies and that song is performed by Reinking in the film.
Tony Awards 2008!

A few days on ago on Facebook this incredible memory popped up from 2008 when I attended the Tony Awards in New York! An amazing evening seeing so many different people perform from so many outstanding shows. Watching In the Heights pick up the best new musical award, the night after seeing it on Broadway.
Musical Moments – Whoopi Goldberg
On Saturday I will be at the London Palladium watching Whoopi Goldberg on the stage in her first ever UK stand up act, as well as a 30 minute question and answer session. Very excited as she has always been one of my favourites and in so many memorable films from growing up in the 90s! I am very excited about sitting in the fourth row and seeing the legend on stage so close up.
I guess I have seen her before though when she hosted the Tony Awards the year I was lucky enough to attend she even came on as Mary Poppins!

Tony Awards 2011
The 2011 Tony Awards are taking place in a couple of weeks now and a lot of my favorite actors and actresses are going to be attending the event. I think its also very good to see how many of them have crossed over from the stage to the silver screen and starring in many different films.

Daniel Radcliffe, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Whoopi Goldberg will present Tonys during the June 12 ceremony honoring Broadway’s best.
Also slated to hit the stage at the Beacon Theater are Chris Rock, Alec Baldwin, Samuel L. Jackson, Kelsey Grammer, Viola Davis, Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones and Harry Connick, Jr.
Christie Brinkley, David Hyde Pierce, Marg Helgenberger, Matthew Broderick, Angela Lansbury, Jim Parsons, Joel Grey, Patrick Wilson and Robert Morse will also appear.
Emmy winner Neil Patrick Harris returns to host the 65th annual show, after a successful attempt last year.
I actually attended the 2008 Tony Awards when Whoopi Goldberg was the presenter.
