Top 10 – Best Films of 2021

2021 was another strange year with the cinemas closed for a while again, so attempting to watch new films and in particular those from 2021 was quite the challenge. I feel as though this list isn’t maybe as “good” as some lists but I have had to go by the films that I have seen and I might have missed some but here it goes! Sorry, not sorry that this was a great year for musicals!

West Side Story (2021) Review

RIP Stephen Sondheim

Legendary musical theatre writer Stephen Sondheim has passed away at the age of 91! He dared to be different and pushed musicals to a totally new level and in a different direction. I have been lucky enough to see Sweeney Todd, Follies, Company and Gypsy on stage! All utterly breathtaking and timeless, he was also part of West Side Story, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods and more.

His musicals will last forever and his legacy will never be matched. Rest in peace.

West Side Story (1961) Review

In the Upper West Side of New York City in the 1950s two teenage gangs struggle to gain control, The Jets and the Sharks going up against each other and when Maria and Tony from the opposite sides fall in love it would led to some very tragic circumstances.

Cinema First – The 450 Films For UK Cinemas!

Today Cinema First released a list of films that can be used at cinemas when they reopen in July. With Cineworld being the first to announce a date for England on 10th July they will then need films to show. The list has a very wide variety of genres as well as from all decades. I personally hope to see a lot of older films on the big screen for the first time, I don’t want recent ones given a release! Let’s appreciate some amazing films on the big screen for what could well be the very first time (Yes Casablanca and Some Like It Hot I am talking about you, not forgetting my all time favourite When Harry Met Sally!)
