MTV Movie Awards 2009 – Best Male Performance – Zac Efron

YAY for Zac *goes in search of pictures*

Yes I do for some strange reason get very fangirly over Zac he is just too pretty for words. He managed to beat out Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr, Vin Diesel and Shia LeBeouf . . . so well done to Zac. HSM3 !!!

News: Crawford Undergoes Musical Training For Footloose

I am still sad that Zac is no longer in it, but hopefully Chace will be very good.

Chace Crawford will undergo gruelling singing and dancing lessons before the cameras role on his remake of movie musical Footloose.

The Gossip Girl star has signed to take on the role made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 original film, after Zac Efron was forced to pull out.

Crawford has limited musical experience, and director Kenny Ortega admits he’ll need coaching before he’s ready to take on the role.

Ortega – who is choreographing Michael Jackson’s comeback tour – tells Us Weekly, “He really sizzles. He has musicality. We need to work with him on music and dance. There are some big shoes to fill. But he has it in him.”

Twilight Leads MTV Movie Awards Nominations

Very interesting nominations, but good that younger stars and not normally award movies get to be nominated.

Vampire blockbuster Twilight and Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire will lead the charge at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards after scooping seven and six nominations, respectively.

The bloodsucking love story, based on the book by Stephenie Meyer, will compete for prizes including Best Movie, Best Female Performance for Kristen Stewart, and Breakthrough Performance Male for both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Slumdog Millionaire stars Freida Pinto and Dev Patel are also up for the Breakthrough Performance accolades, while the film will go up against Twilight, The Dark Knight, Iron Man and High School Musical 3: Senior Year in the Best Movie category.

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway (Bride Wars), Angelina Jolie (Wanted) and Kate Winslet (The Reader) join Stewart in the Best Female Performance line-up, and Zac Efron (High School Musical 3), Shia Labeouf (Eagle Eye) and Robert Downey, Jr. (Tropic Thunder) will fight it out for the Best Male Performance title.

Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana: The Movie) and Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical 3) will go head-to-head for the Breakthrough Performance Female award, while Cyrus is also nominated for Best Song From a Movie for Hannah Montana.

Real-life Slumdog Millionaire lovebirds Patel and Pinto have also earned recognition in the Best Kiss category, alongside Twilight’s Pattinson and Stewart, James Franco and Sean Penn for Milk, and Paul Rudd and Thomas Lennon in I Love You, Man.

The Dark Knight’s Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger will battle it out for Best Fight alongside Seth Rogen, James Franco and Danny McBride for their scrap in Pineapple Express.

The Golden Popcorn prizes, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers, will be handed out in Los Angeles on 31 May.

Fast & Furious Still A Big Hit At International Box Office

I think thats cool, international viewers loving the car races, haha.

Fast & Furious is racing away with the top spot in the international box office chart, grossing $15.9 million (£10.7 million) in its third week of release.

The Vin Diesel movie, the fourth installment of the action franchise, proved to be the most popular film outside of the U.S. for the third consecutive week, bringing its worldwide box office haul to $316.7 million (£213 million).

Animated film Monsters vs. Aliens claimed the number two position with takings of $10.7 million (£7.2 million), while Zac Efron’s 17 Again is at three with $6.8 million (£4.57 million).

Efron Joins Influential Stars List

Thats really cool and I can see why.

Zac Efron has been named one of the world’s most influential people by a U.S. magazine – and the teen idol is in good company alongside U.S. President Barack Obama, George Clooney, Bono and Oprah Winfrey.

Efron, who shot to fame in Disney’s High School Musical franchise, has made his first entry in Time magazine’s annual list of the planet’s top 100 influential figures.

And Efron’s Me And Orson Welles co-star Claire Danes is adamant the 21 year old is worthy of the honour, comparing him to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Danes, who starred with DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet, tells the magazine: “(Working with Zac) I couldn’t help being reminded of the time I had spent with another gifted idol, Leonardo DiCaprio, about a decade before. I saw the simmering ardour of the teenage masses turn into unbridled hysteria after Titanic was released. But this was even more intense. The difference, I realised, was that Zac is not only an actor but also a musician, a bona fide song-and-dance man. We ladies are defenceless against such a combination.

“But I suppose we all know that Zac is a song-and-dance man. What is less known – and what I had the privilege of learning firsthand – is that he is a performer capable of great subtlety and vulnerability. It seems Zac is not only an entertainer but also an artist. He is going to make us swoon for many years to come.”

Other stars on the list include rapper M.I.A., actors Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks, sports star Tiger Woods as well as actresses Kate Winslet and Tina Fey.

State Of Play Tops U.K. Box Office Chart

Top of the UK box office !!!

Russell Crowe and Dame Helen Mirren‘s thriller State Of Play has stormed to the top of the U.K. box office in its opening weekend (25-26Apr09), with takings of $2.175 million (£1.5 million).

The movie, which sees Mirren star as Crowe’s newspaper editor, knocked Reese Witherspoon‘s Monsters Vs. Aliens in to second place, earning $1.576 (£1.087 million).

Vin Diesel‘s high-speed action film Fast & Furious dropped to three, pulling in $1.525 million (£1.052 million), while comedy 17 Again, starring Zac Efron, was at four, garnering $1.486 million (£1.025 million).

Rounding out the top five with takings of $1.027 million (£708,071) was I Love You, Man starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.

Obsessed Tops U.S. Box Office

Interesting I wasnt really expecting this to go straight to number 1 in the box office.

Beyonce Knowles’ new movie Obsessed has romped to the top of the U.S. box office chart with opening weekend (24-26Apr09) takings of $28.5 million (£19.65 million)

The thriller stars Knowles and Idris Elba as a couple targetted by a crazed office temp, played by Heroes star Ali Larter.

Obsessed bumped 17 Again from the top spot; the Zac Efron comedy slid down to second place with earnings of $11.665 million (£8.04 million).

Fighting landed third place with $11.441 million followed by Jamie Foxx‘s new movie The Soloist, which managed a disappointing $9.715 million (£7.81 million).

Disney feature Earth rounded out the top five with $8.554 million (£5.89 million) – the best ever opening for a nature movie.

Efron Dreams Of Meatier Roles

Thats cool that Zac wants that, it will be good if he gets a chance but will be hard for him to get away from his pretty boy image.

Heartthrob Zac Efron is desperate to ditch his pretty boy image and star as a crime fighter in a big screen cop drama.

The actor is frustrated he only gets offered roles in teen comedies and musicals – but accepts he needs to earn the right to get meatier parts.

Efron tells GQ magazine “A guy I worked with recently told me, ‘You have to earn the right to hold a gun.’ And that completely made sense. Can you imagine me running around with a gun in a film?

“I noticed the second I started that the things you want to be involved with are always just out of reach. Most parts you’d want, people won’t really consider you for, because you have to earn that respect.”

Fox Not ‘On The Prowl’ For Efron

I think everyone should be after Zac, haha. Ok yes I am in the fan club hahaha.

Vivica A. Fox has lashed back at reports she’s hot for Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron – insisting her comments about the actor’s good looks have been taken out of context.

The 44-year-old actress is candid about her affairs with younger men, but was stunned when gossips exaggerated her remarks about 21-year-old Efron and accused her of wanting to woo the star.

Fox told PopEater.com, “Zac Efron is just so gorgeous to me. He’s a hot piece. I want just to look at those beautiful blue eyes… They’re are just… ‘Wow!’ Muy caliente (very hot).”

But the actress insists she only has an innocent crush on Efron, who is dating his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens.

She says, “They said, ‘Out of all the actors out there, who do you find attractive?’ I said, ‘Zac Efron.’ I said he has nice blue eyes… and now they’re like, ‘Vivica’s on the prowl for Zac Efron.’ He has a girlfriend. I don’t do other people’s men.”

Efron Starstruck By Jolie

Awww I was saying about Zac !!! haha. How cute that he gets starstruck by Angelina Jolie, he really is just too cute.

High School Musical star Zac Efron dreads running into Angelina Jolie on the red carpet – because he gets tongue-tied whenever he is around the Hollywood beauty.

The 21-year-old has met the Tomb Raider star on several occasions and admits he always gets embarrassed when she tries to strike up a conversation with him.

He says, “(I always) screw up. I don’t know why. It’s just awkward. I can’t really explain it. Last time I saw her was at the Oscars. She asked how I was doing. I said, ‘Thank you’ then turned around and walked away. Everyone started laughing and pointing at me.”
