Rob Marshall has been announced as the new director of the 4th POTC film. This seems to have started rumours that Johnny Depp will drop out of the project and therefore to Captain Jack Sparrow. I do not know how true that is, but will POTC be able to work without Captain Jack? I really do not think it could.
Whats everyone else’s view?
I still don’t really think we need a fourth Pirates film, but if they have no Depp they might as well scrap it since he was the reason everyone went to see the trilogy in the first place.
…just my two cents…

Yeah I agree with that. It really is all about Cpt. Jack.

I really don’t see a need for a second and third film. The first one was great. the second was, overlong and tedious, I don’t even remember what happened in the third. But in answer to your original question without Depp there really shouldn’t be another film.
There is another option, make the film with someone else playing Captain Jack, it will be so bad it kills off the franchise forever!

Isn’t Johnny Depp signed on for the fourth film? Can he break his contract?

yikes. i normally love a good argument with Fandango but here i am in total agreement with him. fun – if a bit long – first movie followed by all this back story and mythology and gunk – all of which was just an excuse to print money.
if anyone ever asks: ‘how bad can modern cinema be?’ just plonk them in front of Pirates 3. has a more pointless movie ever been made? really soulless, joyless stuff
