The Day the Music Died (2022) Review

50 years after the release of ‘American Pie’ one of the greatest songs of all time, Don McLean shares secrets behind it all.

*The Day the Music Died: The Story of Don McLean’s “American Pie”*

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve always had quite the obsession with ‘American Pie’ after hearing it for the first time many years ago now, I seriously do standby that it is one of the greatest songs ever written. Everything about it just feels so perfect, the lyrics, the music and who even cares that it is eight and a half minutes long? That is really one of those things that when a song is so good the length of it does not matter at all.

This documentary allows Don McLean to tell the story behind writing it and putting to rest some rumours of certain parts and what it was about. The day the music died was a reference to Buddy Holly dying in a plane crash, he had been obsessed with his music and thought he was truly fantastic. That was how he then starting writing the song.

I guess though you never really know how well received a song is going to be and the fact that 50 years on from the release that people still love it, that being people of all ages still loving it and finding it at different stages of their lives and still adoring it. So many artists covering it on stage at concerts and the fact that all audiences then know all about it.

If you are a fan of this song then it really is well worth watching this documentary and quite frankly you will hear the song over and over again throughout it. That was an added bonus that is for sure.

The Day the Music Died is available to watch on Paramount+ and one of it’s original features.
