When three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to the modern day Salem they must then stop them before it is too late and they cause too much havoc!

The opening scene goes back to 1653 to Salem and shows how a young Winifred Sanderson is banished from Salem after she refuses to marry John Pritchett, not wanting to let her sisters Mary and Sarah get taken away they escape to the forbidden forest. On arrival they meet the Mother Witch who gifts Winifred a magic book for her sixteenth birthday and teaches them how to keep their youthfulness by killing children.
We then head to 2022 in Salem and 29 years have passed since the Sanderson sisters were resurrected by the Black Flame Candle. Becca and Izzy are ready to celebrate turning 16 and plan on having a Halloween celebration as well, although Cassie their estranged friend was not part of the plans. When they visit a magic shop which is the former Sanderson cottage they don’t realise but are given another black flame candle, which will indeed work the magic to bring the sisters back once more!
The sisters reappear with a fantastic musical number and at that moment I just knew that they had got everything about this sequel so very right! Then throw into the mix the advances in technology even from 1993 and that will mean some rather amusing moments. I feel this is also the perfect time to mention just how utterly fabulous Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy look back as the Sanderson Sisters seriously though!
I love the first Hocus Pocus as it is just so much fun and reminds me of childhood and just adoring it! I know it by any means is not the greatest film in the world and has plenty of faults but that really does not matter when you enjoy something, so the 29 year wait for this film was rather long!
The plot was never going to be overly complicated or anything for the film and takes the same formula as the first and quite frankly that just works out for it. I probably enjoyed it a lot more than anyone is really supposed to, but I do feel my love for the original was one of the main reasons for this and I don’t even care what anyone thinks. If watching a film brings joy then what issue is that? Be positive and ignore all the haters.

I’m not a fan of the first film, so not sure what I’m expecting for this sequel.

If you don’t like the first then the chances of liking this sequel are not high at all.

My oldest daughter was 7 when the original released and loved it. I enjoyed it enough I didn’t mind watching it over and over with her, then my second daughter came along and was hooked too. Fast forward all these years and many daughters later, and my 8 and 13 year old daughters wanted to see it after we watched the original a couple of weeks ago. They loved it, and again so did I enough that it made a great Sunday afternoon movie with some popcorn and cookies. Seeing so many from the original cast was awesome. The only issue I have with it was it probably should have been a PG-13 (did the -13 exist in 1993?). In both I found myself repeatedly saying “go ask your mom” every time someone asked me what a virgin is.

That’s amazing how it has passed through different generations! I was 5 when the original came out.

I thought it was okay – it was better than I was expecting but certainly not my favorite, and doesn’t hold a candle to the original. However, I still enjoyed seeing those three fabulous witches on screen again and I enjoyed seeing them interact more with a modern world this time.
