Detective Beniot Blanc heads to Greece for his latest case, in a post covid world as an eclectic group of friends come together as part of an elaborate game.

Knives Out and in particular Beniot Blanc was a massive success and therefore a second outing for the detective was exactly what everyone needed. The hype in the build up to the film has been rather huge, especially given that it was going to head straight for Netflix but has now been given a week cinema preview before that release date. Having this as the closing film for the 2022 London Film Festival has meant that I was able to see it and other previews were allowed.
It’s actually a very difficult review to write without spoilers as you therefore basically cannot really mention any of the plot, other than that they all head to Greece because Miles Bron who is super rich had invited his group of friends with a rather impressive box that had many challenges inside it. Inviting them all to a murder mystery party which would be his death.
After that everything goes rather crazy especially as Benoit Blanc the now famed detective also happens to be in on the trip. Each character has a massive personality and we cannot help but wonder how they are all even within a friendship group. Naturally it is then explained that it is from years gone by and they have all gone on to achieve different things in different areas. Is the pressure of that too much for some of them though and can they actually take it when events begin to unfold?
The absolute genius behind the film has to be the casting and bringing in so many big names. Daniel Craig is utterly delightful as Blanc and seeing this second outing really does confirm that he really is such an incredibly talented actor that just maybe doesn’t get the credit he actually deserves. I will forever stand by being a massive fan of his career as a whole and not just for the fact that he was James Bond. His accent is utterly hilarious at times and they don’t half give him some outfits!
Edward Norton is a terrific actor and is given the opportunity to have an interesting character to develop within this film. Kate Hudson is so wonderfully over the top that you cannot help but feel as though she is becoming more and more like her mother Goldie Hawn as the years pass by! Dave Bautista has come along way since his WWE days and quite frankly we more than know what we are going to get with his characters by this point, but it works. Janelle Monae was quite frankly a scene stealer and that is certainly an impressive aspect of the film. Kathryn Hahn is everyones favourite still right? Well, you cannot help but feel for her character in this one and as she said in the pre-screening interview she’s beige!
Glass Onion really is a great journey and I really do hope people enjoy it as much as I did and even though I cannot really tell you much about the actual storyline in the film it really is more than not only worth the wait but worth the wait!

Great review – appreciate you didn’t delve into the plot – I also like that Netflix is giving this a limited big screen run so fans of seeing movies in a theater can do so!

Oh yeah, they would have been totally daft not to give it a small cinema release. Have you seen it yet?
