Top 10 – Christmas Film Villains!

At this time of year we cannot help but watch the same films again and quite frankly we probably don’t focus enough on the villains in those films. I actually thought this would be a rather amusing list to put together with some interesting choices (hopefully).

10. Harry and Marv (Home Alone)

I mean come on they are burgling people who have gone away for the Christmas holidays without any care in the world and then target Kevin a ten year old boy as a nemesis. Although I guess they get everything they deserve with the rather incredible albeit sadistic methods Kevin goes to when protecting his house (and self).

9. Jack Frost (Santa Clause 3)

I guess this could easily be the most hilarious inclusion on the list because let’s face it this is one of the worst Christmas films right? I mean even Martin Short has got to the point where he will happily laugh at his own role and allow others to do that as well (see the latest SNL episode with Steve Martin ripping it apart). I mean Short goes all in for his performance and you cannot fault that at all. 😂

8. Jack Duff (Miracle on 34th Street)

I mean this guy attempts to not only wreck Christmas for everyone but also attempts to get Santa put in prison, all to try and gain his company more customers in the build up to Christmas by selling more toys. I mean come on. He is just an utter snake!

7. Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)

We have seen many actors take on the role of Scrooge over the years and so many versions and slightly different takes on A Christmas Carol and quite frankly we really do have to see him as villain. Despite the redemption at the end he is still a bad guy, although I have to admit the older I get the more I can truly understand why he hates quite frankly everything and everyone.

6. The Grinch

Another Christmas character who just quite frankly hates everyone and everything, I mean with good reason that the people around him are truly awful and horrible to him from start to finish. But that doesn’t get away from the fact that he stole all of the presents and attempts to fully steal Christmas.

5. Hans Gruber (Die Hard)

Come on a terrorist attack on Christmas Eve in a big building while a Christmas party was going on, just no need at all for Gruber to do that!

4. Kevin’s Family (Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York)

I mean they didn’t even just leave him once, but twice. The first time he was left at home in Chicago and no one even notices, I mean I get how the counting went from when leaving the house with that kid neighbour getting in the way but how could they not notice he wasn’t on the plane? Then for lost New York he ends up on the wrong flight! Just so poor from all of them, surely they are villains within the film(s) especially the way they treat the poor kid.

3. Mr. Potter (It’s A Wonderful Life)

I mean not only did Potter attempt to own the entire town he also drove George Bailey to attempt suicide without any care in the world. Taking money from people for his own gain and quite frankly making everything just terrible for every single person he encounters.

2. Harry (Love Actually)

I don’t think anyone will ever forgive this one, buying the office woman a necklace and Emma Thompson a Joni Mitchell CD, I mean Love Actually was in general quite a happy Christmas film with incredible and lovely stories. This was not one of them and sees a second place on this list for an Alan Rickman character.

1. Jasper (The Holiday)

I mean Jasper is easily one of the biggest villains in film in general and not just Christmas films, how dare he treat Iris that way. She was still totally in love with him despite him cheating, and when an engagement is announced he didn’t even bother telling her before it was announced to the whole office. I mean come on! Then she has a breakdown and house swaps to LA and he even turns up, just so she can proof read his stupid book. Poison of a character and a man! Kate Winslet deserved so much better (and eventually got just that).
