The Bad Guys (2022) Review

After a lifetime of being the bad guys, a gang of notorious animal criminals pretend to seek rehabilitation in order to avoid prison.

⭐️⭐️

In a world where humans and animals co-exist The Bad Guys is led by Mr Wolf, are a gang who are infamous committing thefts and manage to evade the authorities. The public just see them as bad animals and that really does create a very strange atmosphere for them, regardless if they are actually involved in the crimes. Governor Diane Foxington insults them on live television and this convinces Wolf to come up with the ultimate heist of stealing a valuable award the Golden Dolphin before it is awarded to guinea pig Professor Marmalade at a gala.

Can the Bad Guys actually turn into the Good Guys?

That is certainly a big part of the plot changes as we move through the film and it does make you wonder what the influence of your behaviour and actions can be towards not only yourself but those around you. Your friends or people you work with, but what if they don’t want to change as well?

The film does combine a good mixture of some good heist ideas and in animated form. Personally for me though I felt as though certain aspects of this film made me think of Zootropolis/Zootopia (which I love by the way) and then also DC Super-Pets as we have already had the evil guinea pig twist. With those two films popping into my head it took away from this one, which was a shame as I did actually want to see it at the cinema on release.

It does offer a rather impressive voice cast line up, with Sam Rockwell taking the lead and Awkwafina, Anthony Ramos, Craig Robinson, Richard Ayoade and Zazie Beetz supporting.

  1. Hate to see you didn’t enjoy this one much. My youngest kids loved it, 12-7-2 at the time, and I laughed enough in it I called it a win for parents. But after Lightyear anything remotely decent seems quite good.
