Arthur Curry is now married with a son, Arthur Jr and we see the opening scenes of the film showing his new life being a father and looking after his son. Not what we would usually be used to seeing in a superhero film that’s for sure, but we get it anyway. Along with that he still appears to be having fun although not so much as the King of Atlantis, which he finds boring.
When David Kane aka Black Manta starts taking things to new levels and begins to destory the sea and land when he finds a black trident, the creator promises to give him the power to destroy Aquaman. Five months after this he begins stealing orichalcum to power the Atlantean machines, this releases high quanties of greenhouse gases which causes extreme weather and acid in the ocean.
This then sees Arthur having to break his brother out of prision to help him track down Black Manta and start an actual bromance between the pair? Yes, that is pretty much how it goes down really.
Everything about the film felt disjointed and mashed together in the wrong way, without any real flow going on. Part of this had to be due to the fact that Amber Heard was still left in the film as Mera but her screentime was massively cut to hardly any lines and very limited screentime, which I am guessing wasn’t the original plan before that whole court saga?
Anyway I don’t think we really cared all that much about the Lost Kingdom and it still looks super weird the way the hair moves when under the sea, although I cannot actually come up with how it would actually look ok. Did I watch this film just for Jason Momoa on the screen for two hours then you are absolutely correct.

Terrific review as always…you nailed what others have also said about the film: something was off and no matter how they attempted to paste it together, it didn’t fit!

Yeah totally, it did make me wonder what the original plan was going to be!

You see this in too many films now: clearly too many hands stirring the pot and no clear singular vision !
