Alien: Romulus (2024) Review

A group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe when they are scavenging in the deep of a derelict space station. The chance of a better life is all they wanted.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Starting out on the colony with Rain and the world they live on has 0 hours of sunlight, forced to work and promised that if you reach a certain number of hours you can then travel to another place, you know a nicer place with the sun! Her parents now dead, her only companion is Andy who she refers to as her brother despite being AI.

When asked by her friend Tyler and a group to join them exploring an abandoned space station that they have spotted floating around, she agrees but did not fully realise that they had to have Andy to be able to gain access to the areas. The idea of living in a place with the actual sunlight was Rain’s dream so she didn’t take much convincing.

Obviously it wasn’t going to take too long before their presence on the space station was about to kick start events that they would then not be able to stop. The task was supposed to be simple in getting the pods so they could travel the 9 years in the deep sleep for a promising new life. Naturally that was never going to be straightforward and the creatures they would then come up against would be something else.

The balance of the different sub plots mixing in with the action was certainly a very good way for the film to go and let’s face it Andy was everyone’s favourite right? I mean of course he was! We know brutal death is going to happen in this type of film as well, and that certainly did unfold. Although we know what to expect I cannot get the image of that creature near the end. Seriously that was truly disturbing, it’s now been two days since watching the film and it is still sending shivers down my spine it was so messed up! Don’t get me wrong I knew it was going to be weird, but that was next level.

Cailee Spaeny does a good job in the leading role, as I mean this is not the easiest of roles to take on when we all think about Sigourney Weaver when it comes to the Alien films, even though she hasn’t actually been in them for many years now but she is so iconic. David Jonsson was a scene stealer and actually managed to create some lighthearted moments.

All in all a good addition to the Alien franchise and it did provide a few little jumps!
