Almut and Tobias are brought together in a chance encounter and their lives would be changed instantly, in a decade spanning romance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We Live in Time is an emotional and amusing journey through a relationship that has plenty of good times but also some incredibly sad moments. It feels very real and relatable, which makes you truly care about both Almut and Tobias.
The story of that decade is shown by flashing back to different moments and then moving forwards again, I thought that was a good way to highlight the living in time parts. How one moment in time could then have an impact on another, depsite how many years pass between.
It’s no secret about the crushing part of the story, as this is also in the trailers and that cancer is a very big part of the core. This was completed in a dignified manner and really highlighted some of the feelings that those impacted by it go through. We get to see the joy of being in remission and then starting a family, but the utter devastation that can still occur.
Having some amusing moments throughout really does lighten the mood at times and quite frankly that was needed with the heavier and more difficult part of the story. Seeing them with Ella their daughter was truly magic at times and created that extra added emotional boost.
I have to point out that in terms of making sure we know this is a British film the product placement of Jaffa Cakes made me smile. Also the fact that Tobais works for Weetabix and that keeps getting mentioned, as well as becoming a standing joke.
Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh are just always so great to watch, therefore putting them together in this film was a brilliant idea. Both offering a lot in the roles, I probably wanted a little bit more to push the film to the 5 stars, but it was nice enough throughout with a truly gut wrenching final scence. Also a shout out to the very young Grace Delaney for some amazing scenes with both Garfield and Pugh.
Loved this one when I saw it at the LFF. Garfield and Pugh’s chemistry is off the charts. “Love Story” for the 21st century.
