The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) Review

When the Fantastic Four must balance their roles as heroes with the family bond everything is about to take a scary turn when they must defend the Earth from a space god called Galactus.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are in 1964 on Earth-828 which is an important aspect when it comes to the universe right? Picking up four years after the four astronauts Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm had become the superhero team known as the Fantastic Four. This was after they had gained superhuman abilities due to exposure to cosmic rays during a space mission.

I felt as though this was actually a very good approach, so we didn’t have to start all over again and picked up as they are still trying to work out the superpowers they have while protecting the people of Earth. Boundaries and moral decisions will be pushed as Sue is pregant with Reed’s baby and they attempt to assess if the baby will also have superpowers or not.

The thing is though that wasn’t the only thing about the baby, when the Silver Surfer appears on Earth and declares it will be destructed by Galactus a planet devouring cosmic being the baby is once again put into the limelight. How quickly people will turn on one another despite the rather horrific reason.

It was a slightly different approach from Marvel that we had been used to see, which is another reason it felt rather refreshing. It will then be interesting to see how this all links together in Avengers: Doomsday next year which is going to have so many characters in it!

I felt as though the casting was brilliant for this with Pedro Pascal being a very good Reed Richards with Vanessa Kirby, who can do no wrong for me as Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn is just such a joy wtih the varied roles he has taken on so far within his career and I thought he brought the charmisa to Johnny. Ebon Moss-Bachrach brought the emotion despite the CGI used for his character of Ben.

The aspect of making this more about space and the universe was actually very engaging and intersting, it actually left me wanting to see more from this Fantastic Four!
