Wicked: For Good is the part II or should that be act II of Wicked. Where we continue the story of Elphaba and Glinda.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s good to see them isn’t it.
What felt like a very long year after hearing Elphaba belt out Defying Gravity, we only have to wait during the interval at the theatre to see what happens next. So for me, I knew what was going to happen, the main songs (was excited for the new two though) and I was more excited to see how thye were going to look on the big screen after the first film had been totally smashed.
Now, this one is darker and therefore that means it isn’t going to be as popular as the first (pun well and truly intended). However, I think it still stands up as a brilliant musical film. Its hard to make that transfer from stage to screen. I actually forgot how good “Thank Goodness” is as I was mainly focusing on “As Long As Your Mine” – which I must add they did not reveal any of before the film came out, which was ratehr impressive and “No Good Deed” which is another rather epic moment.
Within the confines of the film and how it looked, I thought visually it was impressive with the highlight in that sense being “Girl in the Bubble”. I’m not really going to expose any so called spoilers to the plot, although I don’t understand how people are so shocked with some of the “twists” when you pretty much told hints within the first act.
In terms of the performances, I truly think they should just give Ariana Grande an Oscar right now. Honestly, everything about her performance just broke me and I guess that is the point of Glinda’s character arc and growth. Cynthia Erivo is such a talent as well, they really did pick such an amazing Elphaba. The thing is for Madame Morrible in this act Michelle Yeoh had to sing a little bit, and that doesn’t really work out very well, naturally she has the evil acting down to a fine art though. Jonathan Bailey will melt us all over again with those eyes.
While you might not see the reviews as positive for this part, if you haven’t seen the stage show I really do recommend it!
I kind of feel that this movie was just an excuse to get Cynthia and Ariana to sing together a lot. Which is great! But the plot and the development of the other characters feel rushed and squeezed in between the musical set pieces. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I feel like the first part was a more effective movie. I don’t mind Michelle Yeoh singing but for some reason it sounds extremely silly whenever she uses “Ozian” words.
I’m going to see the stage musical for the first time next month with my theater kid teenager and we’re very excited!

I hope you enjoy the stage show, I’ve seen it 9 times and adore it. But don’t forget that in length that this shorter than one of the films, so I’m not sure if you’ll like it if you thought the plot and development of other characters feels rushed, as it’s even less on the stage.
