The Hobbit (2012/2013)

The much-anticipated prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been speculated for years now. With it being done after the Lord of the Rings, that follows how I read the books Lord of the Rings first then I read the Hobbit. I actually ended the book The Hobbit more than I did with Lord of the Rings. I found it easier to read and get into, so I am very much looking forward to The Hobbit being filmed and eventually released! I was very happy when it was announced that Peter Jackson was to step back in and sort out the mess which occurred over the film for the past few years. I mean after what he did with Lord of the Rings, no-one else really could have taken on The Hobbit.

Martin Freeman was announced a few months ago now as the man filling Ian Holm’s shoes as Bilbo Baggins. As obviously Holm’s is too old to take on the role of Bilbo in The Hobbit, after all it was his younger years and adventures with Gandalf and slaying a dragon. Looking at the two pictures above, Freeman is a very good choice to play the young Bilbo.

Speculation has also been rife to whether Ian McKellen would return as Gandalf, but surely no-one else can play Gandalf since McKellen was incredible in Lord of the Rings. Other members from the Lord of the Rings cast rumoured to be back are Andy Serkis as Gollum, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. Brian Blessed is also rumoured to have a part in the films.

News today has brought us that The Hobbit is going to be in 3D and will be filmed with red epic cameras, 30 hand held cameras. Shot in real 3D none of the post film making 3D stuff that has been so overdone in recent years. I am not really sure how I feel about it being in 3D as I am certainly not a big fan, unless Jackson goes along the Avatar route instead of playing up to the 3D – which I am sure he will.

The film is going to be split into two parts hence the 2012 and 2013 release dates penned at the moment. Filming is due to commence at the start 0f 2011. So lets hope they stop encountering problems, as this film really does seem to have to fight against well everything in the build up to filming! I am sure Peter Jackson and his team will not disappoint, I will have regular updates on the blog as news comes through and filming begins.

Are you looking forward to The Hobbit?

RIP Leslie Nielsen

RIP Leslie Nielsen

Best known for his roles in comedy films, especially the much loved ‘Airplane!’ giving us a lot of quotes we like to repeat over and over again. He will be a great miss in the film business. Thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

One of my favorite ever funny quotes was said by Nielsen in Airplane!

Rumack: Can you fly this plane, and land it?
Ted Striker: Surely you can’t be serious.
Rumack: I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.

Harry Potter Book Collection

After my cinema trip on Tuesday to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I . . . I placed an order for the full collection of the books. I have never read any of them before, but friends who are massive fans of the books have told me to read them for years now. I have eventually decided that it would be a very good idea to read them!

So I have set myself the goal to read all seven books before Part II of the Deathly Hallows is released in July . . . the day before my birthday! I think I will also treat myself to the blu ray collection which can be bought for around 25 pound at the moment. Which is brilliant for 6 films on blu ray.

Any big Harry Potter books fans out there?

For Your Consideration . . . Toy Story 3

It’s approaching that time of year when production companies put out the ‘For Your Consideration’ posters in order to get the attention of the academy and build up a claim for their film to win those little gold statues known as Oscars. Disney Pixar has started a massive shout for Toy Story 3, which must get nominated in the Best Picture category for the 2011 awards. It was a very emotional film for everyone who watched it, don’t think I have heard or read a bad word against this film . . . so not since Return of the King or Shakespeare in Love has there been a film like this. The best reviewed film of the year as the posters say! Surely an animated film is going to win the Best Picture Oscar . . . will it be 2011?

Top 10: Movie Characters I Would Like To Be For The Day

Well I stumbled across a post on My Filmviews blog titled Which Movie Character Would You Like To Be For The Day and decided to follow suit and complete my top 10 of movie characters I would like to be for the day. Putting this list together didn’t really take too long at all. Especially as most of the characters come from my favorite films.

I tried not to be shallow and pick characters based on their leading man . . . but I think that failed with some of the choices but I mean that had to be a coincident. I honestly didn’t do it on purpose! Yes a few of them are musical characters, maybe that’s because I am tone-deaf!

Daniel Craig: The Ice Lolly!

I am pretty sure I remember reading about this ages ago, that women voted Daniel Craig the most popular choice to have as an ice lolly. Let’s be honest I would be in that group of those people who would vote for Daniel! If you regularly read my blog or if not, the picture should tell you all. I love Daniel Craig! and I want one of these ice lolly’s even if it is freezing outside and we have loads of snow!

Who would pass up on the chance to lick Daniel all over?

The King’s Speech (2010) Trailers

This film has already been receiving 2011 Oscar Buzz. I do think it looks very good (yes I have always liked things about the Royal family). Colin Firth really has started to show what a fantastic actor he is over the past few years. I have seen two different trailers which are very similar but the second is my favorite!

Some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

London Boulevard (2010) Review

Mitchell (Farrell) is released from prison and finds himself quickly in trouble again getting involved with gangster Gant (Winstone) even though he does not see himself as a gangster. While this is going on he ends up falling in love with a young actress Charlotte (Knightley), who he has a job protecting from the press. I was very much looking forward to seeing this film as British gangster films are usually good to watch, this one however is lacking something.

Michael Douglas on the mend!!!

Michael Douglas looks as though he has succeeded in his battle with cancer looking much healthier and more like his old self in a family photo taken in Disney World over the past few days. Last week saw Michael and Catherine celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, thus proving a lot of people wrong about their marriage.

Great to see Michael smiling and looking healthy again lets hope his cancer battle is over now! Or at very least he is past the worst of it.

Mean Girls (2004) Review

Cady Heron (Lohan) grew up in Africa and finds herself in America joining a High School which will be much worse than the Animal Kingdom. Obviously the new girl in school and does not really fit in at all. But the plastics let her have lunch with them and through a plan to get to know their secrets she slips into actually becoming one. SHUT UP . . .
