It’s now 25 years since Fight Club was first released and it really is incredible to think just how many quotes it contains that links to life and even in all that time that has passed that so many of them are still relevant and should change your outlook on life.
I like putting together a list of films that I eventually watched for the first time in a year, which I had never previously watched. I guess this links into the whole Blindspot area that a lot of people aim for each year, as a way to catch up.
When putting this list together though I have noticed that I actually missed reviewing a couple of the films, which is a slight fail. But at least I can then recognise them in this post!
As it turned out 2023 was a rather good year for film, that including cinema releases and films that might have just gone straight to streaming services, although we have hit a time where the turnaround for some films from cinema to streaming services is not long at all. With some films given an advanced release at the cinema, which I am guessing is for people like me who still prefer to see films on that lovely big screen!
The following films made my longlist but not quite into the final ten, this was obviously quite a tough year to decide on: Wonka, One Life, Leave the World Behind, The Great Escaper, Totally Killer, Guardian’s of the Galaxy Vol.3, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Rye Lane and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Now check out which ten films did make the top ten in this years Let’s Go To The Movies Best Films list …
I didn’t actually put together a worst films list of 2022 but decided to bring it back for 2023, mainly as a warning to not watch the films that have made this list. You may think that 6 is a strange number and I would usually do a top 10 list of this, however I only rated six films as one star so that is this list!
In all honesty I am not really bothered that people complain about worst film lists, as it’s actually a good way to see who just doesn’t like the same films as you and quite frankly can make you happy that you actually made some good decisions not to watch them (that is how I have felt seeing other people’s worst film lists, pleased I missed certain films).
At this time of year we cannot help but watch the same films again and quite frankly we probably don’t focus enough on the villains in those films. I actually thought this would be a rather amusing list to put together with some interesting choices (hopefully).
I actually really enjoy putting this “caught up with” list together each year (ok most years) mainly because I know people will wonder how I got to that year without seeing some truly classic and quite frankly outstanding films! While I call it a top 10, its not put in any particular order and has been filtered down from 40 that I thought were worthy to be included in the long list!
Prepare to be utterly amazed with some of my first time viewings in 2021 …
2021 was another strange year with the cinemas closed for a while again, so attempting to watch new films and in particular those from 2021 was quite the challenge. I feel as though this list isn’t maybe as “good” as some lists but I have had to go by the films that I have seen and I might have missed some but here it goes! Sorry, not sorry that this was a great year for musicals!
With cinemas being closed for the majority of the year new 2021 films were also released to different streaming services as well, all of which are possibilities for my 2021 top 10 lists! Cinema list of 2021 HERE and you can also see all 2021 films HERE.
As always though I do get better at picking films to watch and knowing that I will probably not like certain films, although some have certainly slipped through the net. I would love to actually blame the lack of releases at the cinema for a couple of them, but as you will see I also made bad at home choices. Hey, a new film is a new film though right?
Considering the way 2020 went with the cinema closed for most of the year, even when they reopened the new films being offered were few and far between. Although I cannot really complain too much with getting to see all three Lord of the Rings extended editions twice something I had wanted to do for many years. So this year I have had to combine the small number of cinema films which include some 2019 films but due to UK release dates qualify for my top 10 best films of 2020 list! Then combined with films then added to streaming sites and catching up with some before the end of the year. At one point I was unsure if I could even pick a top 10, so it could be my most interesting yet!

2019 has been a very high quality year for film and I feel this has been the toughest list to put together in the whole ten years of Let’s Go The Movies. Which is certainly a very good and amazing thing for cinema and films. Not only have this years best come from cinema releases but Netflix have really come into the picture with some incredible films with amazing performances. With my list it might feel a little bit all over the place with some of the films that are on it due to UK release dates, but also take into consideration that I have also been lucky enough to see some previews of films as well.

I had 22 films that were on my list for Best Films of 2019 and it has been very tough to knock that down to the 10 that have then made up this list. Just missing out (Brittany Runs a Marathon, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Klaus, Judy, Crawl)
