Film and Theatre Lover!
On New Year’s Eve in London four suicidal people meet on the top of a building, each having their own reasons for wanting to jump. The night takes them on a journey and they make a pact to stay alive until at least Valentine’s Day.
I always like to put together a top 10 list of films I have managed to catch up with and watch during 2014 that I had never seen before. Below you will see that I really was slacking with some of these films! Especially the Before Trilogy which I totally fell in love with.
It Happened One Night (1934) – Review
Clark Gable really is something else. This film has that groundbreaking scene of a woman’s leg in what is an amazing scene. Just showing that women can do things which men cannot! Gable gets plenty of good lines in this and the chemistry is fantastic!
Riggan used to be a big hollywood star as a superhero Birdman. But now he is all washed up, no money and not much hope trying to get his play up and running on Broadway.
I have had to change the rules a little bit to put together this post, when I started the blog I made the mistake of waiting until about March time to put out my best films of the year list. Due to UK release dates being a little later than the US. But I have decided to change it so going forward it will be what I have caught at the cinema that year (if that makes sense). So I will put a link to my 2013 list just to avoid any confusion of missed films from 2014’s list! – 2013 Best Films
Not only have I caught films this year at the cinema towards the end of the year I managed to catch ones I had missed either on one of my many flights for work in Africa this year and also on Sky Movies and Netflix as they became available. Putting together a list of worst films of a year is often the easiest and most fun to do. I am not even going to lie, it is the easiest list to sort out. The really bad films still leave a bad taste in your mouth months later just seeing the title. I actually managed to avoid a lot of films I have seen on other people’s lists those being Sex Tape and Tammy, I honestly just thought they looked tragic and managed to avoid them. Unfortunately I still managed to catch plenty of films worthy of this list, I wouldn’t really say 2014 was a fantastic year for film overall.

I always feel like this is the important list of 2014 films to do first, as then everyone knows that I missed some films. A number of reasons for this, that they were unfortunately only on at the cinema for a week and it come and went too quickly to catch it. That I was just too busy and picked other films (it happens and often leads to bad choices) or in some cases that a particular film just doesn’t get released in my area. I have this year attend the cinema quite a lot on my own on an evening, something I never thought I would do, but at the end of the day I am not bothered at all what people think. If I had been bothered I would have missed some cracking films this year such as Boyhood, St. Vincent and Interstellar all of which have a very good chance of making it into my top 10 films of 2014!

Happy New Year to all of the followers of Let’s Go To The Movies
Thank you for you support over the past year (and years). It was a truly record breaking time in 2014 for Let’s Go To The Movies. I hit a record number of followers, of likes and comments.
As as well as reaching 1 million hits for site overall.
2014 was also the most successful reaching over 250,000 posts in this year alone!
I also broke my record for number of films watching at the cinema in a calendar year (separate post will be appearing for that). I also attempted my first blogathon that didn’t go massively to plan, but I tried! (My Hometown Blogathon)
So thank you once again to all of the people who support the site, like my posts and comment on them. Onwards and upwards for 2015 and let’s hope I can break records all over again.
A record-breaking total!!!
The other amazing thing about this year as that I managed to review every single film I watched at the cinema. Something I have tried to do since starting Let’s Go To The Movies in 2009, but it has never actually worked out. I have a system now of making sure the review is done after getting home from the cinema or the following morning. It’s good to have a routine to make sure they are done, something good to look back at and see what your thoughts were. Also to actually track which films you watched!
I honestly would not be able to afford to go to the cinema this many times if it wasn’t for Cineworld’s Unlimited Card, it is an incredible deal where you pay monthly. So a big massive thank you to Cineworld for still running this incredible offer!

In 2014 I managed to go and see 15 musicals and plays on stage in both the North East (Sunderland Empire or Theatre Newcastle) as well as trips to London to see them in the West End. I also caught Monty Python and a concert of Elaine Paige. It has been an incredible year for going to see plenty of shows and live acting. I honestly didn’t realise I had seen so many until getting ready to do this blog post.
Along with seeing an absolute icon in Elaine Paige in her farewell concert, I also managed a last-minute trip to see the legend of Angela Lansbury on her return to the West End after 30 years in Blithe Spirit. But it doesn’t stop there, I got to meet one of my favourite actors Bill Nighy after the incredible Skylight and an added bonus of Carey Mulligan! What a day that was.
A retelling of the story of Moses, how he discovers who he truly is and must rise up and fight the empire in order to free his people.
