7 Films for New Year’s Eve

As 2015 is coming to a close and we are about to start 2016 I thought the perfect way to do that was to take a look back in the film world at films which have fantastic New Year’s Eve scenes or moments. Might be a little bit strange considering I am not really a very big fan of New Year in all honesty and don’t have any plans myself for tonight. It probably doesn’t help that 2015 has been a truly awful year for me, but the less said about that the better. So what better way than to disappear into the world of film and see characters have some great and maybe interesting New Year’s Eve moments?

I do enjoy a good rendition of Auld Lang Syne though in all honesty and you will see that by some of the choices below!

7 Films that surprised me in 2015

Probably the best feeling is when your not really sure about going to see a film and you end up enjoying it. You find it to be a lot more insightful than you first thought and leave the cinema feeling glad that you decided to see that film that maybe didn’t have the best trailer going, or the story you thought would be predictable. I think it’s important to log which films leave you feeling like this, as when you see one you hate you can remember the element of surprise to keep you going!

7 Films that disappointed me in 2015

One of the worst things about watching a lot of films has to be when your really looking forward to one. It has a lot of hype around it, it features one of your favourite actors, you like the sound of the story. You rush to see it at the cinema when it’s released and when it starts you are expecting a lot (probably the first problem) and in the end you are left feeling disappointed. Sometimes though even a little bit of hope for some films is too much and again you are disappointed as the credits roll.

London Premiere – Star Wars: The Force Awakens

On Wednesday I just so happened to have a trip down to London planned to see A Christmas Carol. This had been planned since the end of September and I had no idea that it was going to be on the same day as the European Premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I have never been the biggest Star Wars fan (although that has started to change). But I was still very excited about it going on in Leicester Square at the same time I was going to be down. Luckily I was tweeting about it on the train heading into London and someone told me wristbands were being handed out inside the Odeon until 12pm. That was rather good timing as my train got in about 11am.

“Creed” Publicity Is Getting Hard To Ignore

If you’re like most movie fans, you probably rolled your eyes when you heard about how a seventh Rocky film was being made. 2006’s Rocky Balboa wasn’t necessarily a bad movie, but that they trotted a 60-year-old Sylvester Stallone back into a boxing ring was like a giant advertisement of the fact that Hollywood is a little too obsessed with sequels. As capable as Stallone remains, the whole thing just seemed weird.

But when details of the seventh film started to trickle out and we really found out what it was, it appeared immediately more reasonable, if perhaps a bit forced. This movie will feature Rocky in a supporting capacity as he becomes the trainer (and probably father figure) to Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky’s old nemesis-turned-friend Apollo Creed. The trailers have shown Johnson (played by Michael B. Jordan) reenacting a few classic Rocky training scenes (like catching chickens and running the steps in Philadelphia), and frankly it looks like a charming idea.

I very luckily came across this Blogathon as it started this weekend and just really felt the need to write a post about one of my all time favourite cartoons. The first one that came into my head (I have probably mentioned it a lot of the blog) was Aladdin. It was the first film I went to see at the cinema as a small child and I still enjoy it to this day. I think it has a little bit of everything and is a lot better than some of the more recently released animated films.

London Weekend – 3rd-6th July 2015

I had been looking forward to this trip down to London for months and months now. I managed to get a ticket for AC/DC at Wembley Stadium so decided it was best to head down on the Friday and make a full weekend out of it. Plus then managing to fit in a show as well, that turned out to be Broadway transfer The Elephant Man, starring Bradley Cooper.

Friday

Also to do a little bit of shopping, not my favourite pastime but I did manage to get a couple of pretty cool things. One of the first I could not resist as it links so well into my re-obsession with An Affair to Remember.

I guess that started the trip off having a nice little film feel to it, and a lot of what happened after this links very nicely to the movies as well. Hence why I am writing this blog post, have felt very inspired to write many posts recently and hoping that I can keep it up.

What Will Be the Highest Grossing Summer Blockbuster?

As we are approaching the summer (hopefully weather wise) that also means that the cinema give us a lot of blockbusters to enjoy and for people to go crazy over. Obviously in terms of cinema this now starts a lot earlier and we have already had some blockbusters head our way and be a massive hit at the box office.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

This film has already been a massive hit and didn’t do too bad with the critics either 75% on Rotten Tomatoes so certainly a fresh film as well as being the biggest box office seller so far this year! It has faired better on IMDb with a rating of 8.0 which is pretty good, considering people vote for that one!

Furious 7

This is another we have already had hit the cinema and for some strange reason took absolutely loads at the box office for more weeks than I like to think about. Yes I was not a big fan of this film at all, thought it was very average and poor compared to others in the series but the public wanted to see it a lot. Another hit with the critics though with a massive 82% over at Rotten Tomatoes! I must be missing something with this one.

Mad Max: Fury Road

I don’t really have much to say about this film as I really did not fancy watching it at all. I tried to watch one of the original films and I just could not get into it at all. It has an incredible 98% fresh from Rotten Tomatoes. However that still does not make me want to head out and watch it.

Those are the big three films that have already been released. So which other films do we have to look out for to be a box office smash over the summer period? Let’s take a look . . .

Top 10 – When Harry Met Sally Quotes

This is one of those films which has grown on me over the years. It took me a while to catch up and watch it, but I am so pleased I have. The more I watch it the more I love it and think it’s a pretty incredible film, the script is fantastic which has led to this blog post. So many fantastic lines and conversations that it was actually very difficult to just pick 10 quotes from this film! Billy Crystal really can deliver a line and I am sure you will notice a lot of these come from the wisdom of Harry. If you haven’t seen this film, you really need to. Let’s Go To The Movies Review – if you want to read more about it.
