When the Earthrealm is theatened the champions must defend it, with Johnny Cage added into the mix to avoid Shao Kahn being able to take full control.

Johnny Cage was a former martial arts champion, then an actor and now pretty much nothing as we see him attending small fan conventions. He doesn’t quite believe it when he is chosen to be part of the Earth champions group and initially refuses, although that was never going to be that simple. Despite Lord Raiden’s attempts to get him to compete with the rest of the team and save Earth.
Before this we had been shown a flashback to Shao Kahn killing King Jerrod and taking over Edenia which also meant that he took Queen Sindel and Princess Kitana as his own. This is then going to have such an impact in the current day when the next Mortal Kombat tournament is about to begin.
As a kid Mortal Kombat was my favourite video game, and I think that is utterly reason for me wanting to watch any films on it. I didn’t realise though that I couldn’t really remember much about the first film in this series reboot, maybe if I could I would have prepared for the worst with this one. Parts of it really were terrible and were actually quite funny, even though I’m not fully sure that was the intention.
A big plus of the film though was Johnny Cage and the way Karl Urban took on that role was actually rather impressive, and I fully was onboard with him being given a Lord of the Rings quote moment with “one ring to rule them all” and that was probably my favourite part. Once a ringer always a ringer, if you don’t understand that reference then I really do feel like a huge geek.
Natually the film is set up for a third and I know that is already in the works, not really sure what else can possibly happen. The fight sequences in this one were ok, but I was not happy with the “mortal kombat” being in the trailer and only one small moments of “finish him”.
