Digger Rockwell was the most powerful man in the world and he embarked on a mission to prove he can be humanity’s saviour before the disaster he started destroys everything!

This is one of those films where it might just not really find an audience that fully appreciates or likes it, as it doesn’t really pick where it wants to be. The trailers didn’t really give anything away to the viewers and I can’t decide if that is a good thing or not.

I found the film pretty tough going within the first ten minutes and knew at that point it was going to be a slog to get to the end. It just wasn’t really for me, and I wasn’t even fully sure if I was laughing at moments that were actually meant to be funny or not. I mean I was laughing at times, but was that due to feeling a little more awkward rather than enjoying the content?

I also felt the reveal came a little too soon and maybe waiting a little bit longer for that might have made a difference. I mean that is a huge might as I was just not feeling the film at all, I get the points it was trying to make about climate change and horrendous governments within countries but it just lacked a spark for me.

Tom Cruise went all in, that’s for sure, showcasing his commitment to his role in a way that was both impressive and a little unsettling, but it left me wondering why he chose to take such bold risks. The scenes with the cat were rather disturbing, evoking a sense of unease that lingered long after they were over, prompting me to question the underlying message of those moments. John Goodman had some awful moments as well, diving into darker territory that we don’t usually say about him, which made his performance all the more striking, as it shattered the often lighthearted personas he is known for and revealed a different side of his acting prowess.

This would not be a film that I would be able to recommend to many people as it was a little too far off being anything remotely entertaining. Slightly disappointing from Alejandro G. Iñárritu as I adored Birdman.
