Special Forces veteran James Belmont and his trusty companion Odin a combat dog, find themselves stranded in the Alaskan wilderness following a plane crash.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
James seems to be enjoying the quiet life of the wilderness after many years of war and trauma, we are shown different scenes in flashback form throughout the film. He just seems very content with Odin and being off the grid, travelling around and making the most of the freedom with his trusty companion who have been through a hell of a lot together.
The story is quite a slow burner in terms of the battle from James to stay alive after the plane crash where he had a heart attack leaving them stranded in the wilderness and having to keep moving forward with many miles left to cover. Just when we think it can’t get any worse something even more tragic happens and the anxiety levels increase. The wolves was certainly the toughest part to watch and for me was more powerful than that bear scene from The Revenant.
We only get one other character out in that Alaskan wilderness in the form of Watkins, who I will admit I thought was going to reappear at some point, quite a nice scene stealing moment from J.K. Simmons that’s for sure.
Brad Pitt puts in an exceptional performance and the dog was amazing as well, it certainly just worked from start to finish. Highlighting just how much war can create a bond between an animal and human just in the same way that it can between humans. I really do hope Pitt gets the credit he deserves for his performance in this as I throughly enjoyed it, also never thought I’d be getting all emotional over a dog but it happened.
