Today’s quote is from “Nine” is directing a movie really as easy as Judi Dench’s character suggests?
“Directing a movie is a very overrated job, we all know it. You just have to say yes or no. What else do you do? Nothing. “Maestro, should this be red?” Yes. “Green?” No. “More extras?” Yes. “More lipstick?” No. Yes. No. Yes. No. That’s directing.”
I actually preferred DDL’s quote that opens the movie…about how many time a film gets killed, and how if you’re lucky, you can sometimes recapture the magic.
On a related note, I had an epiphany on Friday. You and I disagreed on our reactions to NINE. But I will say one thing – it works as a Cliff’s Notes version of 8 1/2.
I tried watching Fellini’s opus years ago, and couldn’t really follow it. Having seen NINE, I was primed and knocked out by it. Might I suggest you rent 8 1/2 and write your reaction?

Hmm that is very interesting. I will try and get 8 1/2 to watch and then we can compare notes on that too.
