Stevens a soldier wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

We are taken on the journey into the source code with captain Stevens when he has 8 minutes to gain information on the bomber of the train. To help find out when the next attack is going to take place.

It’s not as simple as it appears and we are introduced to many twists and turns in the story which are not expected. Showing that it is not as simple as it first sounds.

We feel for Stevens as he keeps going back into the source code whilst trying to figure out where exactly he is as the last thing he can remember is being in Afghanistan. Nothing is as simple as it first appears when we find out that he is not exactly alive, but not quite dead. Yes that may sound very strange, but will make much more sense when you see this film. We want him to find out what is happening with him, as we really want to know too. I thought this was a very good way to have the audience in the same position as Stevens not knowing what was going on.

This film is very thought-provoking when we think about all of the people who serve in different Army’s and that something could happen to them and we would really have no idea at all. This is probably slightly controversal as well for those who have family members lost in action.

I did think it was such a brilliant idea for a film, coming up with a machine or computer programmes which allow you to keep going back to an event in order to help solve the mystery and stop more incidents from occurring with answers. Difficult to talk about that without revealing a twist which happens at the end. The level in which they manage to succeed was so interesting and played with your mind a lot.

I would recommend this film and has to be one of the best I have seen so far this year. (Despite taking so long to finish off my review and getting it on the blog!).

Jake Gyllenhaal keeps growing as an actor and does brilliantly to carry this film almost alone we really are taken on a journey with his character and he makes it a very worth while one at that.

  1. The premise is taken from other films, and the script isn’t that good but somehow Jones just makes this such a suspenseful movie and you have no idea what’s going to happen next. I’m also glad to hear that he may be taking over “The Wolverine” project. Sweet. Good Review!
