The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) Review

Nick Cage must use his acting experience to work with superfan Javi Gutierrez who wants him to star in a film he has written but little did he realise who he was and CIA agent Vivian wants to recruit him to help with an investigation.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolute fair play to Nicolas Cage for taking on this role of Nick Cage, which was just a version of himself. Or at least we think it is a version of himself! The actor who has got so sick of the rubbish films now on offer (I mean he has done a hell of a lot of films in the past few years which go straight to video as well as still getting some more major releases). For him to be willing to completely take the utter piss out of himself for a full film is just fair game! The thing is though it actually turns into a rather entertaining spectacle and that is certainly a massive positive. So much so that I was left a little disappointed that I missed the cinema release for the film.

Let’s face it don’t we all still appreciate Nicolas Cage films from the 90s and early 00s? As I know I sure do, so with that we will all enjoy this film due to the links to so many of those films and maybe a few extremely creepy moments as well when Javi is revealed a super fan and has all kinds of merchandise and life size models and props! We get mentions of Shakespeare training when it comes to acting and that he can pretty much do anything because he did in the movies!

The plot does have a couple of twists and turns which I won’t spoil as you need to fully experience all of that for yourself. I can confirm though that it has a help of a lot more going for it than you can probably imagine, that was certainly my approach to the film and was left pleasantly surprised.

Nicolas Cage is brilliant in the film it cannot be denied, anyone willing to do that about themselves is quite a hero right? Pedro Pascal and Tiffany Haddish both offer good support in the different scenes as two very different and rather unique characters. For me as well Neil Patrick Harris popping up in a film is always such a lovely bonus.

  1. A wonderful film that let’s him have some fun with who everyone thinks “Nic Cage” is…he was on my wife’s how last year and was charming, gracious and funny…what a great way to welcome him back!
