A struggling young woman named Millie becomes a live in maid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew who both have their own issues as well. The psychological games that unfold from the trio take many twists and turns.

The Housemaid certainly attempts to throw in as many twists and turns as possible, while giving different points of view from the characters for the same situations which I guess was one of the strongest aspects as we all see things slightly differently or how we really want to see them.
Given the many different twists this is actually quite a tough film to review as I don’t want to spoil anything around the film, I managed to not have anything spoilt with it despite watching it on a flight last month. I didn’t rush to see it at the cinema as I don’t like either of the lead actresses, they are both massively overrated and I find them irritating. Although maybe I should praise the casting, as the characters are both dreadful so maybe that is why it worked better than I was expecting.
For me the overall message within the film is not to judge someone so instantly by the character they portray as you never really know if they are being truthful or it is all an act. Maybe we should think about that more often in life, and not get too obsessed with other people and think about yourself first?
